Qualifications

  • Certification or training in fire alarm, sprinkler, or life safety systems, such as CFAA, ASTTBC, or an equivalent qualification, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the 2024 BC Fire Code, CAN/ULC-S536, NFPA 25, and other applicable life safety standards.
  • Cross Connection / Backflow Certification through BCWWA or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with inspection, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, or related life safety systems.
  • Strong technical, mechanical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and basic repairs of sprinkler and standpipe systems.
  • Complete scheduled inspections per NFPA 25 and other standards.
  • Develop working knowledge of fire alarm systems to support service.
  • Be punctual with appointments and prepare tools and documentation.
  • Complete inspections within timeframe and quality standards.
  • Identify deficiencies and communicate findings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of 2024 BC Fire Code and NFPA 25.
  • Follow company inspection, testing, reporting procedures.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Sprinkler & Cross Connection Technician responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and servicing of sprinkler, standpipe, cross connection, and other related life safety systems within commercial and industrial buildings.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of applicable fire and life safety codes and standards, including the 2024 BC Fire Code, CAN/ULC-S536, NFPA 25, and established company testing procedures. The technician will be expected to work safely and professionally while demonstrating strong attention to detail, punctuality, technical competence, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Inspection, Testing & Maintenance
  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and basic repairs of sprinkler and standpipe systems and cross connection devices.
  • Complete quarterly, semi-annual, 3-year, 5-year, and other required inspections and testing in accordance with applicable standards, including NFPA 25.
  • Develop a working knowledge of fire alarm systems and other ancillary life safety equipment to support cross-training and service requirements.
  • Arrive at scheduled appointments on time and prepare all required tools, equipment, and documentation before beginning work.
  • Complete assigned inspections within the required timeframe, scope, and company quality standards.
  • Identify deficiencies, potential hazards, and system issues and communicate findings appropriately.
Code Compliance & Technical Knowledge
  • Maintain current knowledge of the 2024 BC Fire Code, CAN/ULC-S536, NFPA 25, and other applicable regulations and standards.
  • Follow established company inspection, testing, maintenance, and reporting procedures.
  • Apply technical standards and manufacturer requirements accurately while performing field work.
  • Stay informed of changes to applicable codes, regulations, and industry practices.
Continuous Learning & Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development.
  • Review applicable codes, standards, and technical materials during available downtime.
  • Complete relevant courses and training through recognized industry organizations and educational providers.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to strengthen technical knowledge and field-service capabilities.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Complete inspection and service reports accurately, thoroughly, and within required timelines.
  • Clearly document deficiencies, test results, repairs, recommendations, and other relevant findings.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to customers, office personnel, and senior technicians.
  • Utilize available technical and administrative resources when dealing with complex issues.
  • Ensure electronic records and service documentation are kept current and accurate.
Cross Connection / Backflow Testing
  • Perform testing, maintenance, and basic repair of cross connection and backflow prevention devices.
  • Complete required electronic test-result submissions in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of tested devices and associated service information within the company's service management platform.
  • Ensure testing and documentation meet applicable regulatory and industry requirements.
Vehicle, Tools & Equipment Management
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked company service vehicle.
  • Regularly inspect tools, testing equipment, and safety equipment to ensure they are available and in good working condition.
  • Participate in scheduled vehicle load-ups and restocking activities.
  • Review upcoming work in advance and ensure the appropriate tools, equipment, parts, and materials are prepared.
  • Identify potential job requirements or challenges before arriving on site.
Professionalism & Customer Service
  • Represent the company professionally at customer locations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with company uniform and workplace standards.
