Your Opportunity:
Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) is expanding its Supportive Care Services at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC) and is seeking a compassionate, experienced Spiritual Health Practitioner (SHP) for a permanent part-time role. In CCA, we value spiritual health as a vital part of patient and family well-being and are committed to integrating it into every patient’s care journey. As a Spiritual Health Practitioner (SHP), you will help patients and their families find comfort, hope, and meaning throughout their cancer journey. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team that is committed to holistic, patient-centered care. You will have access to specialized training in oncology and palliative care, along with provincial SHP practice support, to help evolve your practice and skills. Under general supervision of the Manager, the SHP addresses emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs through psychospiritual counseling and supportive interventions. You will facilitate spiritual practices, rituals, and ceremonies. Other responsibilities include triaging referrals, screening for mental health concerns, and coordinating care with other providers. You will provide crisis intervention, lead or co-lead therapeutic groups focusing on spirituality, loss, and grief, and contribute to a spiritually integrated healthcare culture. The SHP will also engage with community religious leaders/ visitors to ensure inclusive care, support healthcare staff through education and consultation, participate in trauma-informed care and post-trauma support, and contribute to quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives. Overseeing the Sacred Space programming, in collaboration with operational leadership, Volunteer Services and colleagues, is also a key responsibility of this role. As a Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE) trained Spiritual Health Practitioner (SHP), you will be equipped with the necessary skills to provide patient-centered spiritual health care: screening, assessment and interventions. As an evidence-based practitioner you will addresses spiritual distress (experiences of loss of meaning and connection in relation to self, others, and what one considers ultimate/transcendent) and promote spiritual well-being (experiences of meaning and connection in relation to self, others, and what one considers ultimate/transcendent). Aligned with the CCA mandate of a patient and family centered approach to care, you will be accountable for providing leadership in the profession for the assigned site(s), consultation, expertise, and direct service delivery in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care delivered at the assigned site(s). Spiritual Care Professional Practice is to be delivered in alignment with and advancement of AHS provincial professional practice standards, frameworks, and guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
Master's in theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the national professional association, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association Canadienne de Soins Spirituels, (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Holds second-level Advanced CPE or equivalent clinical experience, with expertise in supporting individuals facing cancer, grief, palliative/ end-of-life care, and bereavement. Demonstrates cultural and spiritual sensitivity, working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. Engages in self-reflective practice, recognizing how personal values, beliefs, and power dynamics influence care. Applies critical thinking and a range of evidence-based clinical interventions. Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills; collaborates well with diverse groups, including physicians, staff, volunteers, and faith communities. Confident public speaker. Skilled in reflective practice, active listening, negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution. Brings leadership experience and formal training in administering and interpreting assessment tools. Understands the impacts of Indigenous history and reconciliation in clinical contexts. Navigates emotional, spiritual, and cultural conflicts to support understanding. Uses clinical and organizational ethics frameworks in spiritual care. Familiar with spiritual/ religious community resources and effective at building partnerships. Maintains confidentiality and professionalism. Proficient with MS Office Suite, Canva, and Epic (Connect Care), and thrives in high-pressure, autonomous situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
CASC Certified Spiritual Health Practitioner with.3 years of relevant spiritual health care experience with at least 1 year of cancer care experience in an urban adult setting. Experience providing virtual care (i.e. Zoom, Telehealth, phone, MyAHSConnect). Professional development courses in Counselling, Oncology and/ or Palliative Care. Experience developing group programming and facilitating groups. Familiar with cancer-specific organizations outside of CCA.
