Primary Responsibilities :
Speech Therapist
General Responsibilities:
- Safeguarding: Ensure the protection and well-being of children and young people.
- Therapy Program Development: Plan, implement, and evaluate speech and communication therapy programs for individual pupils or small groups with special educational needs (SEN).
- Contribution to Learning: Assist in delivering learning activities and teaching programs, both in school and off-site, adhering to AEI’s curriculum and policies.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track, assess, and report on the effectiveness of speech and language therapy programs.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with class coordinators, teaching assistants, lunchtime assistants, students, or volunteers during school and off-site activities.
- Staff Management: Supervise speech and language therapy assistants and technicians.
- Other Duties: Perform additional reasonable duties as directed by senior staff or the headteacher, including covering for absent staff members.
Support for Pupils:
- Ensure Safety: Maintain a safe environment for all pupils.
- Promote Inclusion: Encourage pupils' independence, self-esteem, and inclusion in activities.
- Role Model: Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a role model.
- Student Supervision: Oversee communication therapy students on placements.
- Parental Liaison: Make domiciliary visits and liaise with parents/carers.
- External Liaison: Coordinate with professionals and organizations outside the school.
- Transition Support: Aid in selecting follow-on placements and preparing pupils for school transfers.
- Representation: Represent the school to visitors or during external visits.
- Assessment Contribution: Assist in pupil assessments and evaluations.
- Report Writing: Prepare detailed reports related to therapy progress.
- Meeting Leadership: Organize and lead meetings specific to communication therapy.
- Course Attendance: Attend relevant courses for continuous professional development.
- Therapy Area Management: Maintain and organize designated therapy spaces.
Support for the Curriculum:
- Program Contribution: Participate in the delivery of a broad, balanced curriculum and adjust therapy activities as needed.
- Strategic Integration: Incorporate therapy programs aligned with local and national strategies, such as literacy and numeracy.
- Resource Management: Prepare, maintain, and assist in the use of therapy equipment and resources.
- Staff Guidance: Advise school staff on the appropriate use of specialist aids and resources.
Professional Conduct and Compliance:
- Policy Awareness: Follow all AEI’s policies and procedures, especially regarding child protection, confidentiality, equal opportunities, health and safety, and data protection.
- Ethos and Collaboration: Contribute to the school's overall ethos and goals by fostering constructive relationships with colleagues.
- Staff Deployment: Ensure the appropriate allocation of staff per school guidelines.
- Meeting Participation: Attend and lead relevant meetings, representing managed staff when required.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Off-Site Responsibility: Participate in and lead off-site activities, ensuring the safety and responsibility of both pupils and staff.
- Induction and Mentoring: Support and deliver induction and mentoring for newly managed staff.
- Appraisals: Conduct appraisals and performance reviews for supervised staff members.
