Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist to provide community visits for assessment and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders in adult and pediatric clients.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team, educate families, and develop personalized care plans. A VPS clearance and reliable transportation are required to visit multiple locations daily, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Speech Language Pathology and current registration with the provincial licensing body.
  • Minimum 1 year SLP experience; community health experience preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of speech and swallowing disorders and related testing/treatment equipment.
  • Ability to create patient-centered treatment plans fitting patient life.
  • Ability to work with a diverse medical team and communicate effectively with families.
  • Must have VPS clearance or ability to obtain.
  • Access to reliable transportation for multi-location visits.

In this role of Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist, you will provide communityvisits to assess and determine treatment in referred adult or pediatric clients for speech and language disorders, pre-linguistic communication behavior, cognitive communication, and or dysphagia.

What you’ll do:
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat communication disorders such as speech, fluency, language, voice and swallowing disorders.

  • Develop, plan, and implement a treatment plan that will remedy the issue the patient is presenting with.

  • Create personalized care plans for each patient, often working with other medical staff on an interdisciplinary team.

  • Educate and counsel patients and families on communication and swallowing disorders.

  • Research speech and communication disorders and develop new diagnostic procedures and devices.

  • Instruct and supervise communicative disorders assistants, students, and other health care professionals.

What you bring:
  • Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Current registration with the provincial licensing body where applicable.

  • Minimum 1 year speech language pathology experience, community health experience preferred.

  • Technical knowledge of different speech and swallowing disorders and how to treat them.

  • Technical knowledge of specialized equipment for testing and treating speech and swallowing disorders.

  • Ability to create a patient-centered treatment plan that would fit into the patient’s life and help improve their symptoms.

  • Ability to work with a diverse team of medical professionals.

  • Advanced communication skills, with the ability to explain speech and swallowing disorders to patients and their families.

  • Able to provide a current, clear Vulnerable Position Screening (VPS)

  • Access to reliable transportation as this position requires visiting multiple locations daily.
