Job description

MPA Recruitment are exclusively retained by one of Ontario’s largest Children & Family Services organizations to recruit for a Speech and Language Pathologist in Markham.

In this role, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide assessment and treatment services to children and youth within the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). The position involves working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities. The candidate should be highly motivated and a self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment: conduct speech and language assessment and screenings, either virtually or in person, with children with ASD. Work collaboratively with parents and key stakeholders. Key responsibilities include administration of formal and informal speech and language assessment tools, interpretation, report writing, and feedback.
  2. Consultation: provide consultation within a multidisciplinary team for complex cases to inform treatment planning & service delivery. This includes decisions around suitability for services and tailoring treatment plans to meet each client’s unique needs and troubleshooting clinical issues that arise.
  3. Treatment: deliver evidence-based treatment for clients with complex needs (individual, group and/or parents), formulation and goal setting, documentation, progress monitoring, and discharge planning as well as delivery of caregiver education and training.
  4. Administration: Attend agency meetings/trainings, internal communication, scheduling client and community appointments, managing speech and language files and managing documentation. Assisting in program development and evaluation. Maintain competency through professional development, training, and reading.

Qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  2. Current registration, and in good standing, or eligible for registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
  3. Experience working with children and youth with ASD and their families.
  4. Knowledge of communication, social communication and language delays and disorders.
  5. Certification in More than Words, Talkability and/or the Picture Exchange Communication System will be considered an asset.
  6. Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team is an asset.
  7. Ability to work virtually with clients and their families.
  8. Strong written communication skills.
  9. Knowledge concerning cultural diversity and proficiency in other languages will be considered assets for this position.
