Job description

The Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre, a member of VCA Canada, is currently welcoming applications for a full-time Supervisor for Specialty Tech Assistants to join our team.

The Centre is a fully functioning referral hospital, with board-certified specialists in a wide range of referral services including internal medicine, critical care, surgery, radiology, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, emergency, and dentistry/oral surgery.

The Centre is committed to supporting pet owners and the veterinary community by providing the highest level of animal emergency and referral care. The successful candidate will lead the Specialty TA team in a professional and compassionate manner, while recognizing the responsibilities involved in responding to client and co-worker questions. PRIOR veterinary experience is required for the candidate.

The Specialty TA Supervisor will also work closely with hospital leadership to promote a positive hospital image and strive for continuous improvement. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. Additional duties include:

  • Training and orientation for new team members
  • Creating an equitable schedule for the team
  • Cross-training within hospital departments
  • Assisting in performance management
  • Supporting patient treatments as necessary to assist the ER team and hospital operations

Schedule: This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a flexible schedule to meet individual needs. The role will be split equally between working within the Specialty service as a TA and performing administrative tasks.
