Job summary

CPKC is seeking an HR Analytics Specialist based in Calgary or Kansas City to deliver workforce reporting, dashboards, and data-driven insights across HR and business decision-making. You will partner with stakeholders to translate workforce data into actionable recommendations, leveraging Excel, Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP, and SuccessFactors for accurate reporting.

Required are a Bachelor’s degree and at least four years in people analytics or HR BI, with strong Excel and BI skills,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, HR, Economics, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in people analytics, HR reporting, BI, data analysis, or related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and at least one BI platform such as Power BI, Tableau, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Working to intermediate knowledge of SQL, data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and analysis across multiple data sources.
  • Experience with SAP HCM, SuccessFactors, or comparable HRIS is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into reports, dashboards, measures, and analytical solutions.
  • Strong data storytelling skills and ability to explain findings and actions.
  • Attention to detail and governance in data reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc workforce reporting (headcount, vacancies, movement, turnover, structure).
  • Develop, maintain, and improve dashboards, scorecards, reports, and analytics products.
  • Clarify business questions, define requirements, and recommend analytical approaches.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, variances, risks, and drivers; communicate implications and actions.
  • Connect workforce findings to cost, capacity, retention, productivity, and effectiveness.
  • Validate and reconcile data from multiple sources; resolve data-quality issues.
  • Maintain metric definitions, calculation logic, and reporting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, governance, policy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate recurring reporting processes.
  • Manage competing priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Support workforce planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, and strategic HR initiatives.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Specialist HR Analytics role, based in Calgary or Kansas City, is responsible for delivering workforce reporting, dashboards, and data-driven insights to support HR and business decision-making. The position partners with stakeholders across HR and Information Services to manage recurring and ad hoc analytics, translate workforce data into actionable recommendations, and leverage tools such as Excel, Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP, and SuccessFactors to ensure accurate, meaningful, and business-aligned reporting.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Prepare and deliver recurring and ad hoc workforce reporting, including headcount, vacancies, employee movement, turnover, workforce composition, and organizational structure
  • Develop, maintain, and improve dashboards, scorecards, reports, and other analytical products
  • Work with stakeholders to clarify business questions, define requirements, and recommend appropriate analytical approaches
  • Analyze data to identify trends, variances, risks, and underlying drivers, and communicate what changed, why it matters, and where action may be required
  • Connect workforce findings to broader business considerations such as cost, capacity, retention, productivity, and organizational effectiveness
  • Validate and reconcile data from multiple sources, investigate anomalies, and work with stakeholders to resolve data-quality issues
  • Maintain metric definitions, calculation logic, reporting documentation, quality-control procedures, and consistent reporting standards
  • Ensure reporting complies with privacy, governance, policy, and regulatory requirements
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, consolidate, and improve recurring reporting processes
  • Manage competing priorities, recurring deadlines, ad hoc requests, and stakeholder expectations
  • Support workforce planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, and strategic HR initiatives
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Human Resources, Economics, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in people analytics, HR reporting, business intelligence, data analysis, or a related field
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency with at least one business‑intelligence platform such as Power BI, Tableau, or SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Working to intermediate knowledge of SQL, data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and analysis across multiple data sources
  • Experience with SAP HCM, SuccessFactors, or a comparable HR information system is preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and root‑cause analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into reports, dashboards, measures, and analytical solutions
  • Strong data‑storytelling skills, including the ability to explain findings, implications, and recommended actions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, consistency, documentation, and governance
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive employee information
  • Experience developing executive or senior‑leadership dashboards and analytical narratives
  • Experience with Power Query, DAX, data models, reporting automation, workforce planning, forecasting, retention, or workforce‑cost analysis
  • Experience working in a large, complex, unionized, regulated, or multinational organization
