Job summary

Newmont seeks a senior Mine Engineer to lead underground mine planning at the Red Chris Block Cave Project in northern British Columbia. This remote, fly-in/fly-out site offers a dynamic environment focused on safe, efficient development.

You will drive short-range planning, mentor engineers, and coordinate with operations and partners to optimize performance. P.Eng in BC preferred; Deswik experience is a plus. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • 6+ years underground mining with planning focus.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Deswik planning software experience is an asset.
  • Contractor management experience is beneficial.
  • P.Eng designation in BC or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop an engineering/technical team with a safety-first mindset.
  • Deliver optimized short-term mine plans (0-3 months) aligned to objectives.
  • Translate long-range designs into execution-ready plans.
  • Monitor performance metrics and drive productivity improvements.
  • Identify risks and opportunities to improve plan delivery.
  • Execute core planning activities including weekly schedules and ventilation planning.
  • Maintain and enhance MoS for short-range planning.
  • Provide technical support across underground development (drill, blast, ventilation).
  • Collaborate with operations and external partners to optimize mine performance.

Your Impact

You will lead mine engineering activities for the Red Chris Block Cave Project, driving safe, efficient, and well-executed underground development. Your leadership will ensure high-quality short-range planning, strong operational performance, and a collaborative team culture that supports delivery of critical project milestones.

As a part of our team, you will

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers and technicians with a safety-first, inclusive mindset
  • Deliver optimized short-term mine plans (0-3 months) aligned to operational and LOM objectives
  • Translate long-range designs into detailed, execution-ready plans
  • Monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvement in productivity and schedule adherence
  • Identify risks, constraints, and opportunities to improve plan delivery
  • Execute core planning activities including weekly schedules, POI designs, ventilation modelling, and inventory management
  • Maintain and enhance the Management Operating System (MoS) for short-range planning
  • Provide technical support across underground development, including drill and blast and ventilation planning
  • Collaborate with operations, technical teams, and external partners to optimize mine performance
Prerequisites for your success in this role
  • Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • 6+ years of underground mining experience, with a focus on planning and development
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing, inclusive teams
  • Strong mine planning capability (Deswik experience considered an asset)
  • Experience in contractor management and underground operations is beneficial
  • Exposure to block caving is an asset
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in BC or ability to obtain
Your work environment

This role is based at our remote Red Chris mine site, featuring modern accommodations and recreational facilities. You will work a balanced fly-in, fly-out schedule (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off), supporting both career growth and personal time.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$113,600 - 159,075. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
