Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in circuit design, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
  • Proficient in electronic design software (Altium Designer and OrCAD).
  • Experience in circuit theory and PCB design principles.
  • Solid understanding of electronic components such as diodes, transistors, opto‑electric devices, display technologies, discharge devices, power sources, and ICs.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, firmware integration, and communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical systems design and programming.
  • Programming experience in C and real‑time, multi‑threaded, or memory‑constrained operating systems.
  • Knowledge of testing and certification standards relevant to electronic equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills, effective engagement with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Work independently and with minimum supervision; collaborate within a team.
  • Excellent fault‑finding, critical thinking & problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other engineers to bring new products from prototype to production.
  • Perform all aspects of technical work, including reviewing specifications, project documentation, circuit design and testing, and product testing.
  • Read and interpret PCB, electrical, and mechanical schematics/drawings.
  • Design and verify electrical circuits, schematics, PCB, hardware fixture, test jigs.
  • Create accurate BOMs, Test Instructions, Assembly and Wiring Instructions.
  • Create detailed design documentation and estimate time to complete tasks.
  • Review drawings, BOMs, Test Instructions, Customer Specifications, test specifications, procedures, and Wiring Instructions for accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards via testing and certification processes.
  • Embedded C Programming and testing.

Job description

Who will you be working with?

Bach-Simpson is the lead Event Recorder OEM in the North American Transit market. It designs, develops, and maintains various electronic equipment for trains. The monitoring team in this division is responsible for the Bach-Simpson monitoring products and projects.

How will you make a difference?

As a Specialist – Electronics Engineering and member of the monitoring team in Bach-Simpson, you will report to the Products Line Manager, and you will be responsible for the design, commissioning, and technical support of Transit and Locomotive electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems of varying size and complexity, under the direction of more senior team members.

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be willing to travel to the customer site as required (10% or less)
  • Able to travel to the U.S. for business trips
Typical Responsibilities
  • Work with other engineers to bring new products from prototype to production

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move test hardware and equipment up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to work at a lab bench performing hands‑on testing, setup, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to connect and interact with small components, cables, and test fixtures
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods depending on testing needs
  • Ability to visually inspect hardware devices and test systems
  • Ability to work in an electronics lab environment following ESD and safety protocols
  • Ability to use hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers) for assembling and maintaining test setups
  • Ability to connect/disconnect various connectors on a daily basis as testing needs
  • Manual dexterity to work with various hardware for testing purposes
Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $57,300–$65,000, based on training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, and location. Wabtec offers a comprehensive benefits plan including vacation, health, dental, and retirement. Additional benefits may include an annual bonus if eligible.
