Job summary

GEODIS in Mississauga is seeking a Customs Brokerage Specialist to manage the customs brokerage process and ensure compliance with government regulations and customer requirements.

You will validate classifications, duties and taxes, prepare documentation, respond to Canada Customs, and coordinate with customers to resolve issues while meeting tight deadlines; GEODIS offers growth opportunities and a collaborative, safety‑conscious team.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in customs brokerage or related field.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken, with strong communication skills.
• Familiarity with import regulations and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the customs brokerage process per SOPs and SLAs.
• Validate classifications, import duties and taxes in compliance with regulations.
• Prepare and document services under contract or SLA; coordinate with operations on requirements.
• Serve as primary contact for customers and answer inquiries to Canada Customs.
• File compliant entries and obtain release prior to arrival.
• Identify and implement process improvements and corrective actions.
• Monitor shipment reports and address service exceptions.
• Ensure adherence to corporate and department policies.

Customs Brokerage Specialist

Your role on the team

• Manage the customs brokerage process as defined by Customer specific and Location specific standard operating procedures
• Validate correct classification and import duties and taxes paid, in compliance with contracted customer requirements and with all governmental and industry regulations
• Document services to be provided as agreed with the customer in a contract or SLA – service level agreement, if service to be provided is different from basic work instructions, provide operations with customer specific SOP – standard operating procedure, ensure operations understands additional service requirements
• Function as first point of contact for customers with Canada Customs, respond to customer requests, complete requests for additional information from Canada Customs, follow up with customers and Canada Customs until issues are resolved to the customer’s satisfaction
• File compliant Customs and OGA entries and obtain release prior to arrival
• Identify customer needs or problems, coordinate with other departments to develop and create written procedures, training, and auditing, oversee implementation of required changes to processes and procedures
• Solve problems, fix issues, expedite shipments
• Coordinate with other departments to respond to inquiries and resolve issues
• Monitor reports, identify shipment exceptions, rectify potential service failures
• Identify corrective action required, follow up through completion of corrective action
• Proactively identify and rectify potential issues
• Analyze reports and statistics
• Comply with corporate, regional, branch, and department policies and procedures
• Respond to issues as escalated, elevate unresolved issues to next management level

What you need

• Minimum of two years of experience
• Fluent in Import Regulations, Customs Brokerage process, and other import compliance issues
• Familiar with Import Regulations, Import License requirements, and other import compliance issues
• Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Familiarity with the internet
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Able to plan and organize a complex process from start to finish
• Able to organize and prioritize tasks
• Able to work effectively in a time constrained environment and meet strictly enforced daily deadlines
• Willing to communicate with customers and colleagues and provide excellent customer service
