Job Description
WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based at a world-class Horizon North camp facility, the typical shift is 20 days on and 10 days off, with 11-12-hour workdays. Transportation is provided from a designated pickup point.

The Sous Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, manages food orders and menu planning, assists with food preparation and service, trains staff, and ensures adherence to Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment as employment conditions.

Your work will include :
  1. Preparing, presenting, designing, and serving high-quality rotational menus
  2. Supervising kitchen staff productivity and compliance with policies, including health, safety, and quality standards
  3. Training, developing, and mentoring employees
  4. Ensuring all foods are prepared using FOODSAFE and HACCP methods, following safety guidelines
  5. Managing resources effectively and efficiently
  6. Serving clients and staff professionally and personable
  7. Applying knowledge of dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian options in meal planning
  8. Conducting bi-weekly inventory checks
  9. Performing other duties as required
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  1. Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate
  2. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification
  3. At least 10 years’ experience in hospitality/food service industry
  4. Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Chef in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or remote lodges, with knowledge of international and domestic cuisines
  5. Proficiency in computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, GFS, Outlook)
  6. Extensive knowledge of menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control
  7. Strong practical and theoretical kitchen skills across various areas including hot and cold kitchens, pastry, bakery, butchery, and banquets
  8. Effective leadership style, positive personality, and good listening skills
