Job description

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders across sectors. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing. We are hiring a Solutions Architect for Automotive to help our partners (like Mercedes, Ford, GM, Elektrobit, Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata) and prospects understand and adopt our open source platform for their needs.

Our worldwide field engineering team applies expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps, and related technologies. We are experts in the entire open source stack, from kernel to desktop, cloud to embedded. We are expanding our offerings to bring security, management, and developer experience to small Linux environments and devices. Our team also focuses on business challenges—building reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions—and learning to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

This role requires automotive expertise, Linux proficiency, coding and scripting skills, and experience with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development. Successful candidates enjoy diverse client engagements with ambitious technology entrepreneurs, are competitive, business-oriented technologists, and team players committed to company success.

Our field engineers are trusted to provide thoughtful, well-informed answers to customer questions and to prioritize the best solutions for our partners and clients.

Location: This is a home-based role, hiring worldwide.

Daily Responsibilities:

  1. Engage customers during presales to gather requirements and explain our technology.
  2. Liaise with other Canonical experts to develop comprehensive solutions.
  3. Participate in delivering projects related to Embedded Linux, including demos and PoCs.
  4. Convey market requirements internally and contribute to solution development.
  5. Act as a customer advocate and trusted advisor to Canonical.

If you are passionate about open source technologies in Automotive, eager to build Software Defined Vehicles, and interested in leveraging Cloud technologies in embedded environments, you will thrive at Canonical.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field.
  • Extensive Linux experience, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
  • Solid embedded Linux experience (Yocto, RTOS).
  • Fluency in Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
  • Customer engagement interest, including pitching and understanding client environments.
  • Result-oriented, multi-tasking ability, and commitment-driven.
  • Quick learner with humility.
  • Relevant Automotive industry experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% for meetings, events, and conferences.

Additional Skills (Optional):

  • Experience with ISO26262 and/or ISO21434.
  • Experience with customer engagements.

What We Offer:

  • Distributed work environment with biannual in-person sprints.
  • USD 2,000 annual learning and development budget.
  • Annual compensation review and performance bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including leave, parental leave, and assistance programs.
  • Opportunities to travel and meet colleagues worldwide.
