Job description

Solar Technician

The Solar Technician will travel to job sites around the defined service area and help build and maintain solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure. The technician must be competent and qualified to work on electrical and/or mechanical components of Renewable Energy assets.

What you’ll be doing as a Solar Technician:

  1. Follow all Health and Safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace
  2. Complete routine safety documentation before every job including tailgate meetings, electrical work permits, etc.
  3. Technical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance activities to maximize performance/production
  4. Energization/de-energization procedures
  5. Follow and implement LOTO plans and procedures
  6. Interpret schematics and blueprints
  7. Quality assurance checklists and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed
  8. Follow OEM specific maintenance requirements in addition to company standards and industry best practices i.e. NETA MTS, CSA Z463, etc.
  9. Daily digital reporting and documentation of all work performed
  10. Work in a team-based environment and independently where necessary
  11. Participation in on-call weekend services on a rotating schedule
  12. Identify and provide feedback to issues and ongoing development of projects
  13. Willing to work overtime as needed
  14. Keep the sites looking clean and safe– buildings, vegetation, fences, gates, roads, etc.
  15. Ensure spare parts inventory is organized and clean

Do you have the Spark? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  1. Minimum 2 years electrical experience is required
  2. High school diploma or equivalent
  3. Post-secondary education with an electrical or mechanical base is an asset
  4. ABET/EAC certification will be considered an asset
  5. 309A Journeyman license an asset
  6. Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC)
  7. Valid Driver’s License with suitable driving record
  8. Must be able to lift 34kg (75lb)
  9. Able to determine color codes
  10. Positive attitude, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
  11. Computer and digital literacy (proficiency with mobile apps and various software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Report writing)
  12. Electrical and mechanical aptitude
  13. Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  14. Ability to be a positive contributor to a team environment
  15. Customer-focused attitude with an ability to represent Spark positively and professionally on customer sites and within the community
  16. In physical condition to climb a wind turbine (300+ feet) and lift/move equipment (50+ pounds)
  17. Firm commitment to safety
  18. Passionate about renewable energy
  19. Ability to travel within the designated territory
  20. Ability to work overtime and/or on-call rotation at times
