Job summary

Sun Life Financial's Application Operation Services & Quality Engineering (AOSQE) team seeks a Software Quality Engineer with strong manual and automated testing skills to ensure quality across mainframe and front-end applications.

You will design test strategies, develop detailed test cases, execute tests, and collaborate with agile teams on shift-left testing, CI/CD, and test management tools.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of software QA/quality engineering experience.
• Strong creation and execution of manual and automated test cases.
• Experience validating financial data calculations.
• Familiarity with QE best practices and tools.

Role Summary

The Application Operation Services & Quality Engineering (AOSQE) team is a part of the larger Digital Business & Technology Solutions team. Working better together. AOSQE is looking for a Software Quality Engineer/Software Quality Engineering Specialist with functional, automation testing skills with DB experience to join the Mainframe and Data Testing Chapter . The successful candidate acts as the Quality Advocate and is responsible to ensure the delivery of quality solutions to our clients through testing.

Main Accountabilities

• Contribute to designing and implementing effective QE testing strategies through analysis of complex business requirements
• Advocate for quality within the agile team and actively participate in ceremonies
• Design, develop detailed test cases to thoroughly test complex use cases and scenarios covering functional requirements
• Execute manual and/or automated test cases to validate business application logic and identify software defects
• Collaborate within cross-functional agile team on shift-left testing and automation reuse
• Document and track product defects, providing detailed reproduction steps, expected and actual results
• Contribute to the automation and quality engineering best practices within the Agile team
• Provide timely and effective communication to management, relating to quality, resource and project issues & concerns.
• Navigate effectively through complex challenges, involving others to solve problems and achieve goals

What You Need to Succeed

• 3-5 years of software QA/quality engineering experience
• Strong experience in creation and execution of both manual and automated test cases, ensuring thorough validation of business application logic against defined requirements
• Comfortable testing reports, including validating financial data calculation accuracy
• Solid experience in QE best practices and tools
• Experience in functional, non-functional, regression, integration and end-to-end testing of Mainframe and front-end applications
• Hands on experience in test automation frameworks and tools like Tricentis Tosca, Cucumber, Selenium, Python
• Demonstrated understanding of Agile principles, DevOps, shift-left and in-sprint testing, CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jira/Confluence, qTest or equivalent Test Management tool
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and work collaboratively with cross functional team members to analyze and resolve issues
• Strong communications skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to business partners
• High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, quick learner and autonomous

Preferred Skills

• Insurance domain knowledge and finance/accounting a plus
• Experience with SQL queries, MongoDB, DB2, IMS
• Familiarity with Java, Python, C# or other programming languages
• Knowledge in BDD, TDD testing framework
• Demonstrated use in prompt engineering in generative AI chatbots and agentic AI for testing
• Enhanced Reliability Clearance is a plus
