We are hiring a Software Engineer for our OpenStack Engineering team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate open source software, Linux, and OpenStack enthusiast. Join Canonical to build a rewarding career working with talented professionals worldwide.

As a software engineer on the OpenStack Engineering team, you will develop Charmed OpenStack and Ceph, open source Python charms for deploying and managing OpenStack and Ceph. Your work will enable cloud platform technologies across various environments, from desktops to bare metal servers. This role requires Python development skills and a passion for automating infrastructure as code.

Applicants should be passionate about the future of software-defined data centers, distributed systems, and open source. Canonical is a globally distributed team of engineers sharing this passion, so you should work well in such a setting. Successful engineers at Canonical are mindful of the open source ecosystem dynamics and the needs of large, innovative organizations.

This role involves international travel several times a year, typically for one-week periods.

What you'll do

1. Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
2. Write high-quality code to develop new features
3. Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes
4. Review code from other engineers
5. Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions
6. Ensure the success of OpenStack and Ceph on multiple architectures
7. Work remotely with global travel 2 to 4 weeks for events

Who you are

4. You hold a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related fields
5. You have experience with Python
6. You have interest and experience with at least two of the following: Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, AI/ML, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, databases, Debian packaging, web services
7. You have experience with non-x86 architectures, such as s390, arm64, power
8. You have experience with cloud technologies like OpenStack, OVN, Openvswitch
