Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer II – CIAM based in Canada.

We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer to help build and enhance secure customer identity and authentication systems. In this role, you will contribute to the backend services that support registration, login, authorization, and account lifecycle management across consumer and business applications. You will develop reliable APIs and authentication features while working with modern identity platforms and security-focused technologies. Collaborating with experienced engineers and cross-functional partners, you will help deliver secure, seamless digital experiences for customers. This position offers an opportunity to strengthen your software engineering expertise while developing specialized knowledge in Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). It is ideal for an engineer with solid programming fundamentals, a problem-solving mindset, and a genuine interest in building secure, scalable systems within a remote-first environment.

Accountabilities
  • Build and deliver customer-facing authentication features, including streamlined login experiences, multi-factor authentication (MFA), step-up authentication, and device binding.

  • Develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python, Kotlin, or comparable programming languages to support secure customer access.

  • Integrate identity management technologies and platforms, such as Okta, Auth0, and ForgeRock, with web, mobile, and partner applications.

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, automated testing, code reviews, and production deployments.

  • Debug backend services, investigate production issues, and use logs, metrics, and monitoring tools to improve system reliability and performance.

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to translate requirements into practical technical solutions that meet customer and business needs.

  • Apply secure software development practices to authentication and identity services, contributing to the protection of customer accounts and sensitive information.

  • Learn from experienced engineers through mentorship, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving while progressively taking ownership of scoped engineering projects.

Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to write, test, and debug software using Python, Kotlin, or a similar programming language through professional experience, internships, coursework, personal projects, or open-source contributions.

  • Foundational knowledge of backend software development, including APIs, data structures, databases, and version control.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate technical issues and develop practical, maintainable solutions.

  • Interest in authentication, identity management, and secure software development, with the willingness to build expertise in Customer Identity and Access Management.

  • Familiarity with identity protocols, authentication mechanisms, or CIAM platforms is an advantage but is not required.

  • Ability to write readable, maintainable code and contribute to automated testing, code reviews, and production support.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and security stakeholders.

  • A proactive learning mindset, openness to feedback, and willingness to seek guidance and grow through mentorship.

  • Must reside in one of the eligible Canadian provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Benefits:
  • Annual base salary: CAD $133,000–$183,000, with starting compensation typically positioned at the beginning of the range and determined by location, experience, and job‑related skills.

  • Equity opportunities: Potential eligibility for equity rewards and participation in an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), allowing eligible employees to purchase company stock at a discount.

  • Comprehensive healthcare: 100% employer‑paid medical coverage premiums for employees and their dependents, including dental and vision coverage.

  • Monthly spending stipends: Financial support for technology expenses, health, and wellness needs.

  • Flexible time off: Flexible paid time off and generous holiday schedules to support rest and work‑life balance.

  • Remote‑first flexibility: Work remotely from an eligible Canadian province, with occasional in‑person activities where required.
