Leonardo DRS Canada is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Ottawa (Kanata) team. Based on site with hybrid work options, you will contribute to analysis, design, and implementation of software subsystems and modules.

You will work closely with the software team to meet customer requirements, perform design reviews, and ensure timely delivery of releases. A degree in software-related field and 3+ years of experience, with C/C++, Ada, Java, Tcl/Tk, and Git familiarity, are expected.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in programming and agile development.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Ada, Java, Tcl/Tk with willingness to learn full language mix.
  • Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
  • Experience troubleshooting software on target hardware and in simulations.

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Manager, Software Engineering the lntermediate Software Engineer will be required to operate in both team and solo activities. Key activities will involve analysis, design and implementation of software subsystems and modules that have been assigned. The incumbent is also responsible for addressing customer requirements, performing complex development activities requiring extensive research and analysis. As a member of the Software team, the incumbent carries collective responsibility for the successful implementation of the Company’s software product releases and systems.

This role is based out of our Ottawa, ON location and will be required to report on site for work on a hybrid schedule as business needs allow. It is not a remote position.

As a Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Required to support the analysis, development, and review of fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for engineering design;
  • Make recommendations for design improvements based on this analysis;
  • Involved with the engineering investigation, analysis, and resolution of reliability elements in design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems;
  • Supports engineering with reliability related design analysis, and coordinates issue resolution;
  • Perform Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA);
  • Conduct Reliability analyses, trend analysis, root cause analysis, and determine associated metrics and develop and maintain associated databases;
  • Lead the Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) Engineering Process;
  • Responsible for technical activity and completion of assigned task on time and budget;
  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems;
  • May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments;
  • Report of progress and status regularly;
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable;
  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments;
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services;
  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements;
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks;
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required;
  • Participates in preparation of less-complex proposals;
  • May provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel;
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization;
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.

Salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 CAD

What you require to be successful in the role:
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience;
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in programming and agile development;
  • Proficiency in at least one of: C, C++, Ada, Java, Tcl/Tk, with the aptitude and willingness to learn our full language mix;
  • Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows (e.g., Git);
  • Team-centric attitude with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Familiarity with Avaya / IP Call Processing technology;
  • Experience working with configuration management tools;
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging software on target hardware and in a simulation environment;
  • Familiarity with estimating, measuring, and optimizing software performance;
  • Commitment to producing quality technical work while managing multiple tasks and working toward long-term goals;
  • Maintaining a professional attitude ensuring to working collaboratively as a member of a team;
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written), organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
