Job summary

Leonardo DRS in Canada is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support field service activities at depots, training sites, and customer operations. You will train, operate, or repair equipment in diverse environments and report progress to supervisors.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in electrical engineering, 1+ year of electrical design experience, and eligibility for Engineers NS. Occasional travel to customer sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with military and commercial standards for electrical designs.
  • Ability to read schematics and engineering specs and troubleshoot.
  • Strong interest in power electronics and power converters design.
  • Knowledge of RS232, Linux, and communications audio circuitry is an asset.
  • Ability to work well in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support routine field service repair and overhaul at customer facilities and training sites.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with DRS-specific equipment at field locations.
  • Collaborate remotely with engineering to resolve complex issues.
  • Propose solutions by coordinating with the engineering head office in Kanata, Ontario.
  • Maintain independent work habits with or without supervision.
  • Communicate progress and findings in reports and meetings.
  • Travel to customer sites as required.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor – Repair and Overhaul, the Field Service Engineer will support routine field Service activities in operating environments at depots, training sites, and customer field operations with training, operation or repair

As a Field Service Engineer, your main responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Supports routine Field Service repair and overhaul in operating environments at customer facilities, training sites, and customer field operations involving training, operation, or repair
  • Troubleshoots technical issues involving DRS-specific equipment at military and commercial field locations
  • Takes complex issues that cannot be resolved by lower-level technicians and work with engineering remotely to resolve them
  • Determines solutions for routine technical problems by working remotely with the DRS engineering head office in Kanata, Ontario
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with or without supervision
  • May interface directly with customer personnel to address technical support issues either in person or by phone
  • Works at remote locations under supervision of others, including Navy personnel
  • Provides regular reports on progress and status, including technical field service reports or issue summaries
  • Completes assigned tasks on time and meets technical requirements
  • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, with company personnel and customers as required
  • May participate in the preparation of less complex proposals
  • Attends appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
  • Provides input and recommends process improvements. Supports, communicates, reinforces, and defends the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Travel to customer sites as and when required.
What you require to be successful in the role:
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum of one (1) years of experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment
  • EET or P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
  • Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters design
  • Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment
  • Knowledge of RS232 communication protocols, Linux operating systems, communications systems, and audio circuitry is considered an asset.
