Job description

Software Development Team Lead (Full-Stack)

Since launching in 2019, CapIntel has been on a mission to provide magical financial moments for all: investors, wealth professionals, and our customers.

Our innovative proposal generation platform transforms how financial professionals compare, discuss, and present investment options, empowering clients to make informed decisions. We pride ourselves on revolutionizing an outdated process with a product that's adopted 4x more than previous solutions. As one of Canada's fastest-growing wealthtech companies, CapIntel is expanding at an unprecedented pace. Our relentless commitment to innovation drives us to build a dynamic team, strengthening our ability to impact the wealth industry landscape in 2025 and beyond.

About the Role

CapIntel is hiring a Software Development Team Lead to support both full-stack technical execution and team development. This is aplayer-coach position, where at least 50% of your time will be spent contributing directly to the codebase, designing scalable solutions, and ensuring successful project delivery. The remaining time will focus on supporting your team’s growth, facilitating collaboration, and aligning work with business priorities.

What You'll Do
  • Spend at least 50% of your time contributing to code, architecture, and delivery planning.
  • Lead a team of 5–8 developers, providing technical guidance, tailored mentorship, and ongoing support through 1:1s, coaching, and onboarding.
  • Make decisions that support high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify and remove blockers and encourage shared ownership of solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and continuously improve development practices and processes.
  • Partner with product and design to plan, prioritize, and deliver features that align with business goals.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in a technical leadership role, ideally leading a small team of developers with mixed levels of experience.
  • Ability to balance technical contribution with leadership and coaching responsibilities.
  • Experience with code reviews, technical mentoring, and improving team workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience making technical trade-offs that align with broader goals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Bonus Experience
  • Experience working in fast-growing Software as a Service (SaaS) environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, specifically AWS.
  • Exposure to DevOps, infrastructure, or technical strategy.
The Interview Process
  • 30-Minute Video Call with a Talent Acquisition Partner: A conversation to get to know you better, discuss your leadership experience, and explore your technical expertise, people leadership skills, and cultural fit for the role.
  • 75-Minute Live Coding Session: A hands-on coding session with an Engineering Leader. You’ll be tasked with solving a technical problem in real-time, demonstrating your approach to coding best practices, problem-solving, and collaboration in a live setting.
  • 60-Minute Interview with a member of Engineering Leadership:A deeper dive into your technical leadership, problem-solving abilities, and experience managing and mentoring a team. This interview also focuses on your ability to align engineering efforts with product goals and customer value.
