Job summary

Jeppesen ForeFlight seeks a Software Application Developer in Montreal to configure and customize our crew planning software for airline customers. You will work with Python, the Rave modeling language, and modern tooling to deliver tailored solutions while strengthening customer relationships.

The role is hybrid, based in Montreal, with growth opportunities in technical and client-facing areas. Strong Linux/Unix, Git, and Python skills are required, along with excellent communication in English.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of software development experience.
  • 6+ months of Python experience.
  • Experience in Linux/Unix environments.
  • Experience managing codebases and pipelines with Git and GitLab/GitHub.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to speak and write English; Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer needs and capture requirements.
  • Configure and customize Crew planning and Crew Operations software using Python and the Rave modeling language.
  • Explain design decisions clearly to customers and manage expectations.

Software Application Developer Hybrid in Montreal

Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a Software Application Developer with a passion for aviation. This position reports to the manager of Americas Production Configuration Services working out of the Montreal, Quebec office. This is a customer-facing position that will allow you to grow technically and enable opportunities to fine-tune soft skills such as problem solving and customer communication as well as provide you with business knowledge of this amazing industry. The Production Configuration Services team is responsible for the configuration of our Planning & Operations products for airline customers and for making sure that we deliver solutions that our customers truly need. Joining us is an opportunity to be part of a skilled team of specialists that solve some of the most challenging optimization problems in the world, value diversity and learn from each other. We are looking for team members with expertise in software development as well as strong communication and co-operation skills. The successful candidate is good at dealing with technical challenges and programing tasks as well as handling client expectations and building long-term customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with the customer to understand their needs and their business objectives and use that information to capture requirements.
  • Deliver customer requirements by configuring and customizing our world-leading Crew planning and Crew Operations software using our proprietary rule-based Rave modeling language and Python.
  • Explain design decisions and technical solutions in a clear and confident way to customer, while managing customer expectations and building long-term client relationships.
  • Collaborate and interact with the team to adjust Ways of Working to improve efficiency and customer collaboration.
  • Use a test-driven development methodology to ensure top quality, developing automated test cases as you code.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to sit in Montreal.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • 2 + years’ experience with software development and programming.
  • 6+ months’ experience with Python.
  • 1+ years’ experience effectively working in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Managing a codebase and building pipelines, using a tool such as Git and GitLab/GitHub, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to speak and write English. Spanish is an asset.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):
  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science / Mathematics / Physics Engineering /Industrial Engineering or equivalent professional Programing experience.
  • 2 + years’ experience with software development and programming. 2+ years’ experience with Python.
  • 2+ years’ experience effectively working in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Airline and specifically Crew and / or Operations planning experience.
  • Experience working within an Agile team.
  • Experience with:
  • Relational Database modelling
  • Operations Research or Optimization
  • Test Driven Development, using tools such as Gherkin and Behave
  • Enterprise Integration
  • Docker
  • CI/CD
  • Shell scripting
  • Functional Programming expertise
  • PyCharm
  • Pytest
  • Experience with development and administration in Linux systems in virtualized environments (OracleOS and/or RHEL is a plus)
  • Cloud [I/P/S] AAS, using AWS, Azure, OpenStack or equivalent
  • Virtual machines, using tools such as Vagrant and VirtualBox
  • Interfaces and data integration, Camel, and XML
  • Kubernetes (Helm Charts an asset)

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
