Job summary

Fortinet Inc. is seeking a Software Development QA Specialist in Burnaby, Canada, for the FortiEndpoint DevQA team. You will ensure functionality, reliability, and security across multi-platform endpoint agents and cloud backends, performing both client- and server-side verification.

You will design and maintain test automation, troubleshoot complex edge cases, and collaborate with R&D, release QA, and operations to improve product quality. Security and low-level systems experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Minimum of four years of professional experience in a technical QA or software engineering role (ideally within security, enterprise software, or low-level systems).
• Strong understanding of client-server architecture and secure web communications (HTTPS, TLS/SSL, WebSockets) governing communication between endpoint agents and the management cloud.
• In-depth knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, VPN) to troubleshoot agent connectivity and data payload delivery.
• Over three years of hands-on experience with Windows and Linux operating systems and system internals (e.g., registry, file systems, process management, and system logs), as well as virtualization/sandbox technologies.
• Strong familiarity with Endpoint Security concepts (EDR, XDR, Next-Gen AV, or host-based firewalls) and basic understanding of malware behaviors or attack techniques (e.g., MITRE ATT&CK framework).
• Strong familiarity with QA processes, methodologies, bug-lifecycle management, and software development fundamentals.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot system and network issues using tools like Process Monitor, Windows Event Viewer, Wireshark, system logs, and crash dump analyzers.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Shell for test automation and log analysis.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and basic security testing/simulation is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Execute test cases using both manual and automated testing techniques to ensure agent stability, telemetry accuracy, and detection efficacy.
• Design, develop, and maintain software systems and automation frameworks to enhance product test coverage.
• Develop and maintain test automation infrastructure and manage the multi-OS virtualized QA lab environment (Windows, Linux, macOS).
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues within our cloud management backend and endpoint communication pipelines, implementing proactive solutions to prevent regressions.
• Create, maintain, and monitor internal service performance metrics, including agent resource utilization (CPU, memory, and disk footprint).
• Collaborate with software development, release QA, and system operations teams to improve products and services.
• Work closely with R&D and technical support teams to track, troubleshoot, and resolve complex edge-case bugs (e.g., driver conflicts, agent crashes, telemetry gaps) using internal tracking systems.
• Participate in escalated customer calls or field telemetry analysis for real-time troubleshooting as needed.

As a Software Development QA Specialist for our FortiEndpoint product, you will be responsible for ensuring the functionality, reliability, and security of our multi-platform endpoint agents and cloud management backends. The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be between $85,000 - $115,000 annually. Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labour market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, and experience.
