Job summary

SHIV SOFTWARE EXPERTS LLC in Dorval, Canada seeks a senior aerospace systems engineer to review supplier airborne software and hardware designs and ensure compliance with DO-178B/C, DO-254 and related standards. You will lead design reviews, assess certification plans, and drive safety and regulatory conformity across supplier teams.

The role requires 15+ years in engineering, 10+ in aeronautics, and hands-on FPGA/ASIC or embedded software experience.

Qualifications

• University engineering degree in Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 15+ years in a technical engineering field, including 10+ years in aeronautics.
• 5+ years of FPGA/ASIC development or embedded software for aerospace.
• Thorough knowledge of airborne software and electronic hardware guidance and means of compliances.
• Knowledge of RTCA DO-178B/C, DO-248B/C, DO-254, DO-330.
• EASA CM-SWCEH-002/001 and FAA ACs/Orders as applicable.
• Proactive, adaptable, initiative-taking with accountability and integrity.
• Proficiency with DOORS/JAMA environments.
• Experience with civil aircraft and airworthiness authorities.
• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).

Responsibilities

• Participate in preliminary and critical system design reviews.
• Review and assess supplier’s airborne software and hardware certification plans.
• Review and assess supplier’s airborne software and electronic (FPGA, ASIC, PLD) designs.
• Perform technical and process audits at supplier facilities.
• Perform safety of flight reviews.
• Assess software and hardware test results and determine final compliance status.
• Lead resolution of safety, compliance or technical deficiencies with the suppliers and stakeholders.
• Prepare and review design compliance reports.
• Contribute to evolution of the SWEL (Software and Electronics) domain roadmap.
• Mentor less experienced professionals.

In your role, you will review and assess supplier’s airborne software and electronic hardware designs to ensure they meet technical requirements and regulatory requirements. In order to achieve this, you will:

How to thrive in this role?

• You hold a University engineering degree in Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
• You have a minimum of 15 years of experience in a technical engineering field, including a minimum of 10 years in aeronautics
• You have a minimum of 5 years of FPGA or ASIC development and / or embedded software development for aerospace applications
• You have thorough working knowledge of airborne software and electronic hardware guidance and Means of Compliances

• You have knowledge of requirements capture environments (DOORS, JAMA)
• You have working knowledge of multiple programming languages (C, C++, Ada95, Assembly, Python) and multiple hardware description languages
• You have knowledge of embedded computer architectures
• You have knowledge of operating systems and real-time executives
• You have general knowledge in electronics and software programming
• You have experience with civil aircraft and airworthiness authorities
• You are member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
