Job summary

Medway Council is recruiting a Social Worker to join the Children with Disabilities Team in Medway, Chatham. The role carries a permanent contract with hybrid working and a salary in the £39,823–£43,435 range, enhanced by a £5,000 market supplement and a £2,000 retention payment, taking the overall package above £50,000.

Qualifications

• Recognised Social Work qualification and current registration.
• Post-qualifying experience in Children's Social Care, ideally with disabled children.
• Understanding of interface between social care, health and education.
• Confidence working with complexity, risk and multi-agency partners.
• Commitment to relationship-based and strengths-led practice.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of disabled children and families, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
• Complete high-quality assessments balancing child needs, risks and family support.
• Build trusting relationships with children, young people, parents and carers.
• Coordinate packages of short breaks, direct payments and specialist support with health/education partners.
• Prepare clear analytical reports for reviews, panels and court where required.

Location: Medway Council, Chatham (Hybrid working available)

Salary: £39,823 – £43,435 (dependent on experience)

Market Supplement of £5,000

Annual Retention of £2,000

The Role

• Manage a caseload of disabled children and their families, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
• Complete high-quality assessments that balance a child's needs, the risks involved and the support their family needs to keep going.
• Build purposeful and trusting relationships with children, young people and their parents and carers.
• Coordinate packages of short breaks, direct payments and specialist support alongside health and education partners.
• Prepare clear, analytical reports for reviews, panels and court where required.

About You

You will be a committed and capable practitioner with:

• A recognised Social Work qualification and current Social Work England registration.
• Post-qualifying experience within Children's Social Care, ideally with disabled children.
• A strong understanding of the interface between social care, health and education.
• Confidence working with complexity, risk and multi-agency partners.
• A clear commitment to relationship-based and strengths-led practice.
