Unit Summary

Emergency Services at all Hamilton Health Sciences sites provide acute care for both adults and children. Hamilton General supports adult trauma, burns, cardiology, and cardiovascular programs.

Position Summary

As a member of the healthcare team, the Social Worker provides direct patient care through psycho-social screening and assessments; individual and family counseling and treatment; crisis intervention; bereavement counseling; liaison and referral to community agencies; advocacy; and discharge planning.

Qualifications

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as a Social Worker
2. Baccalaureate degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work; Masters degree in Social Work preferred
3. Previous crisis intervention experience
4. Expert knowledge of community resources
5. Strong assessment, counseling, case management, and advocacy skills
6. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

Note: All Social Worker postings are at the BSW rate unless MSW is required. Applicants with an MSW will be adjusted to the MSW rate upon proof of degree.
