Job summary

Bushbalm Skincare is seeking a Social Media Intern to manage and grow our presence on Instagram and TikTok. You will own community management, monitor trends, and contribute to content creation from ideation to shooting and editing.

The role combines hands-on posting with strategic ideation and brief-building, in a fast-paced, skincare-focused startup. This Ottawa-based internship offers exposure to performance metrics and brand-building opportunities.

Qualifications

• Currently studying or recently graduated in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
• Comfortable being on camera and able to shoot and edit short-form video.
• Strong written communication in Bushbalm’s brand voice across captions and outreach.

The Role

The Social Media Intern helps bring Bushbalm to life on Instagram and TikTok, working closely with the Social Media Strategist. This is a support-and-ownership hybrid role: the intern independently owns community management and trend monitoring, while actively contributing to content creation — from ideation and briefing through shooting, editing, and caption writing. Over time, the role grows to include more strategic ideation and brief-building. The ideal candidate lives and breathes social media, is a confident and organized self-starter, and is excited to help Bushbalm show up online with a playful, skincare-smart voice.

The Social Media Intern is a vacant role. The hourly wage for this role is $18 per hour.

In this Role, You Will:

Content Creation & Community Management

• Conceptualize, pitch, and shoot short-form video content — Reels, TikToks, Stories, and static posts — that bring Bushbalm’s brand pillars to life


• Write captions, on-screen text, hooks, and CTAs in Bushbalm’s confident, playful, skincare-smart voice, calibrated to each platform’s scroll behaviour


• Submit all content for Strategist review and approval before publishing


• Monitor and respond to comments and DMs on Instagram and TikTok in a timely, brand-aligned tone, flagging customer complaints or recurring FAQs to the Strategist for routing

Trend Monitoring, UGC & Gifting Support

• Scroll TikTok and Instagram daily to identify emerging trends, sounds, and formats, sharing a regular digest of findings with the Strategist


• Monitor tags, mentions, and branded hashtags across Instagram and TikTok, flagging and saving strong user-generated content for potential resharing


• Flag positive responses, warm leads, and organic creator engagement to the Strategist the same day for next-step coordination


• In-office support for marketing shipments

Scheduling, Publishing & Performance Support

• Assist with scheduling and publishing content as directed by the Strategist


• Support content calendar organization — pulling inspiration, saving references, and organizing assets — and help with on-set or shoot-day logistics as needed


• Check daily post performance on both platforms, log key metrics, and flag posts that are performing notably well or poorly


• Contribute observations on what’s resonating to the weekly performance review

What you Bring:

• Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok) and current best practices


• Currently studying, or recently graduated in, Marketing, Communications, or a related field


• Comfortable being on camera, with the confidence to shoot and edit short-form video


• Strong written communication skills, able to write in Bushbalm’s brand voice across captions, briefs, and outreach messages


• Highly organized, with the ability to independently manage multiple ongoing responsibilities (content, community management, outreach, trend tracking)


• A genuine interest in skincare, beauty, or wellness is an asset
