Job summary

WinSport in Calgary is seeking passionate snowboard instructors to deliver high-quality lessons and cultivate a love of winter sports. You will guide lessons, ensure safety, and foster a welcoming environment for guests of all ages across evenings and weekends.

Ideal candidates hold CASI certification (Level 1–4), possess strong communication and reliability, and are available for seasonal full-time or part-time shifts including school groups. Competitive hourly pay with benefits.

What the role is all about:

At WinSport, we are seeking passionate individuals committed to sharing their love for the sport of snowboarding. If you're interested in teaching, coaching, and sharing your passion for winter sport, we encourage you to apply.

In this role, you will be providing high-quality, tailored snowboard lessons to our guests, contributing to their skill development and love for winter sports. You will work in a dynamic, supportive setting, delivering lessons safely and engagingly, and collaborating with your team to ensure excellent guest experiences.

Our Snowboard lessons run 7 days a week primarily on evenings and weekends. Lessons are for participants aged 3-5, 6-12, 13-17, and 18+. Our snow school offers a variety of lesson lengths including daily and multiweek. If you want to work during the day, we offer our lessons to School Groups Monday-Friday.

Key responsibilities include leading check-in and out, providing duty of care for participants in lessons, equipping participants with rental equipment, teaching exceptional snowboard lessons, providing meaningful feedback and assisting in program execution. You will help create a safe, welcoming environment for all participants and contribute to a positive, memorable experience.

What you will be doing:

  • Engaging experiences:
  • Provide exceptional customer service and guest-focused experiences
  • Teach and inspire guests to connect with the sport of snowboarding.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and intentional lesson content that aligns with guests' needs, age, stage, goals, utilizing a constructive feedback approach.
  • Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for guests of all ages, abilities, and personalities.
  • Coordinate and communicate participant level changes with team members, leadership, and guests to maximize positive and safe experiences.
  • Assist with non-teaching duties, including hill set-up and take-down, rental shop support, lesson check-in, waiver confirmation, and school group organization.
  • Commit to teaching multiweek lessons to maximize our guests’ experiences and connection to their instructor
  • Communication:
  • Communicate with guests and team members in ways that align with our core values: safe, welcoming, inspiring and creative.
  • Adjust communication and skill development strategies to appropriately fit the needs of the guest, including level, age, and interests.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all snowboard products to assist guests and make informed recommendations.
  • Operational Effectiveness:
  • Support setting up snow school guest check-in, check-out, and area take down.
  • Lead the check-in and check-out for guests participating in your lessons.
  • Maintain high personal and professional standards, arriving on time, in uniform, ready and equipped for the day ahead and adapting to changing conditions.
  • Assist with the accommodation of guest needs with a mindset focused on guest service, problem solving, and adaptability.
  • Collaborate with Shift Leads and other instructors to ensure the successful execution of snowboard programs, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of guests.
  • Actively contribute to a safe and welcoming environment by identifying and mitigating hazards, adhering to the Alpine Responsibility Code, and ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely lead snowboard lessons tailored to guests' skill levels and goals, following CASI/CSIA training and WinSport's safety protocols.
  • Actively be aware of the inherent risks associated with snowboarding, making decisions that prioritize the safety of yourself, other Team Members, and guests.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, including maintaining class cards and recording secure pick-up codes for child safety.
  • Maintain duty of care at all times ensuring the safety and well-being of participants in your care by providing proper instruction, supervision, emergency preparedness, choosing appropriate terrain, bathroom breaks, and when taking breaks indoors; including specifically for School Groups maintaining duty of care from “bus to bus” including check-in, check-out, and over the lunch break.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • Current Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 certification with CASI or foreign equivalent.
  • Able to work as a team and independently.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a positive attitude.
  • Coachable and able to take direction.
  • Dual Ski/Snowboard certification is considered an asset.
  • Freestyle/Park certification is considered an asset.
  • NCCP certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience teaching ski lessons is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in other languages is considered an asset.

You will be:

  • Prepared to work in all weather conditions.
  • Healthy and prepared to be outdoors snowboarding every day.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 20lbs occasionally.
  • Able to assist with chairlift loading/unloading.

Employment Dates & Times

  • Seasonal position beginning in November. Projected winter season is November 20 th to March 28 th . Projected hill opening date is weather dependent.
  • On-snow and off-snow training between November 7 th to 22 nd . Training dates are based on the projected hill opening date and are subject to change.
  • Full-time and part-time hours available.
  • Holiday and weekend availability is required.
  • Lessons are offered during all operating hours.
  • School Group Programs are offered Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Evening & Weekend Programs are offered Monday to Thursday from 3:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday-Sunday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • A number of Holiday dates within December 21 st to 23 rd , Dec 26 th to January 3 rd and February 13 th to 15 th will be mandatory. Specific dates, and the number of dates required will be confirmed and communicated once finalized.
  • Breaks will be paid for School Group instructors as they maintain duty of care over the break.
  • Compensation for Level 1 is starting at $18.30.
  • Compensation for Level 2 is starting at $21.50.
  • Compensation for Level 3/4 is starting at $24.00.
