Job summary

Spectrum Resource Group, a Wright Canada Holdings unit, seeks a Slasher/ Brusher for on-call vegetation management work across Canada. You will operate chainsaws and brush cutters to clear vegetation, ensuring access and safety in forested or dry areas.

Expect travel, physical outdoor work, and adherence to safety protocols. The position offers pay rates between $25 and $45 per hour, with overtime, holiday pay and accommodations as applicable, plus comprehensive training and career development

Qualifications

• Certified Chainsaw operator is required.
• Ability to traverse steep slopes and work long hours (7+ hrs).
• Valid BC Driver's License with <6 demerits is required.
• BC First Aid certification or equivalent is an asset.
• Pre-employment drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Clear trees, shrubs, and thick brush using manual tools and machinery.
• Improve land accessibility or prepare land for agricultural, construction, or forestry use.
• Remove cut vegetation and debris and dispose of it appropriately.
• Clear dead or dry brush to mitigate wildfire risk.
• Maintain safety protocols and wear PPE at all times.
• Perform other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Use manual tools (chainsaws, axes, machetes, etc.) and machinery (brush cutters) to clear trees, shrubs, and thick brush from a designated area.
• Cut down and remove overgrown vegetation to improve land accessibility or prepare it for agricultural, construction, or forestry use.
• Gather and remove cut vegetation and debris from the site, ensuring it is properly disposed of or managed (e.g., mulching, burning, hauling away).
• In forested or dry areas, clear dead or dry brush to reduce the risk of wildfires.
• Clear paths for vehicles, workers, or machinery.
• Follow all safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce the risk of injury.
• Other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills Expectations

• Certified Chainsaw operator
• Ability to traverse steep slopes and work for more than 7 hours a day
• The ability to work away from home for periods of time.
• Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License with less than 6 demerits
• B.C. Intermediate or Advanced First Aid certification, or equivalent, is considered an asset.
• Applicant must pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Ability to lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
• Punctuality, dependability, and accountability in the field.
