Job description

Skilled Renovation Carpenter
Bay Point Contracting
Bring Your Experience to Projects Built with Excellence.

At Bay Point Contracting, we are an established and growing renovation contracting company specializing in residential projects. We believe in doing things right--building trust with our clients, maintaining high standards, and creating a team that supports each other. We do not just renovate spaces--we provide certainty, build strong relationships, and create great careers.

This role is an opportunity to apply your experience while helping others develop theirs.

About the Position

Bay Point Contracting is seeking an experienced, versatile, and quality-driven Skilled Renovation Carpenter to execute residential renovation projects and help guide developing team members.

Although strong carpentry skills are essential, this is not a carpenter-only position. The right person will be an adaptable renovation professional who can contribute across multiple trades and project phases, including framing, drywall, flooring, forming, underpinning, window and door installation, cabinetry, trim work, demolition, and other residential renovation activities.

You will work closely with the Site Lead to complete projects safely, efficiently, and according to Bay Point Contracting's standards for workmanship, professionalism, and customer care. You will also collaborate with project managers and other team members as needed to support successful project completion.

The ideal candidate combines extensive hands-on ability with sound judgment, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the patience to train and encourage less-experienced coworkers.

Why You'll Enjoy This Role

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply a broad range of renovation and carpentry skills.
  • Work on varied and challenging residential renovation projects.
  • Contribute across multiple project phases rather than performing only one repetitive task.
  • Help improve construction methods, productivity, quality, and job-site systems.
  • Train, lead, and encourage developing team members.
  • Work closely with the Site Lead and company leadership while contributing your experience to improve project quality, efficiency, and team performance.
  • Exercise professional judgment when resolving job-site challenges.
  • Play an important role in maintaining the company's workmanship and customer-service standards.

If you take pride in solving problems properly, producing precise work, and helping a team deliver excellent renovations, this could be an outstanding fit.

Duties
  • Execute residential renovation work efficiently and according to project specifications, quality standards, budgets, and timelines.
  • Perform framing, drywall installation, flooring, forming, underpinning, window and door installation, cabinetry, trim work, and other renovation tasks.
  • Safely demolish and remove existing structures, fixtures, and materials while understanding the potential effects on surrounding systems.
  • Read and interpret architectural blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
  • Take precise measurements and complete layout work for accurate cuts, placements, and installations.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Procure, transport, handle, organize, and properly store construction materials and equipment.
  • Work closely with the Site Lead to coordinate daily activities, maintain project quality, and complete assigned work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Train, support, and encourage less-experienced team members.
  • Ask appropriate questions and communicate concerns before they become larger problems.
  • Contribute recommendations that improve productivity, quality, construction systems, safety, and customer service.
  • Maintain safe, clean, healthy, and professional project sites.
  • Lead or participate in end-of-day cleanup to eliminate hazards and leave the site organized.
  • Participate in safety checks and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
  • Follow company policies, safety procedures, legal requirements, and project-specific instructions.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment for each site and task.
  • Participate in responsible waste disposal and environmentally conscious construction practices.
  • Direct potential leads for new work to Bay Point Contracting's sales team.
  • Continue developing professionally through training, industry education, and hands‑on learning.
  • Represent Bay Point Contracting professionally and help ensure our customers become our biggest fans.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in residential and commercial construction and renovation.
  • Advanced rough, finish, and general carpentry skills.
  • Competence in framing, trim work, cabinetry, drywall, flooring, tiling, forming, concrete work, and related renovation activities.
  • Mastery of common hand and power tools used in construction and renovation.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and project documents.
  • Precise measurement, layout, cutting, placement, and installation skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and cause and effect.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to develop practical solutions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality finishes.
  • Ability to organize tools, materials, tasks, and work areas effectively.
  • Strong safety awareness and consistent adherence to advanced safety practices.
  • Ability to train, guide, and encourage developing team members.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, accountability, and follow‑through.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions, tasks, and project requirements.
  • Strong communication, listening, and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors throughout the seasons and in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
  • Valid G driver's licence.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship program is an asset.

  • Ability to safely lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Compensation

We are looking for someone who values quality, safety, accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and pride in professional craftsmanship.

What You Can Expect From Us
  • Full‑time employment.
