Job summary

The Town of Newmarket seeks a Skate Park Instructor for Fall/Winter/Spring 2026-2027 to join the Recreation and Culture Team. You will set up the skate park, deliver lesson plans, and monitor safety while engaging participants of all ages in quality programs and events.

You will develop progress reports for families, track attendance, and maintain a positive, safe environment. Evening and weekend availability is required, with eligibility for required certifications prior to start.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years skateboard or scooter riding experience.
  • Sport and recreation instruction experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work well with children, youth and adults.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, participants and staff.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to Town.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required.
  • CPI or Safe Management certification an asset.
  • Certifications may be obtained prior to job commencement.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down skate park equipment and report issues.

  • Write and hand out report cards to parents/guardians.
  • Monitor attendance and entry/exit of participants.
  • Supervise a safe environment and ensure proper safety gear.
  • Complete incident/accident reports and provide basic first aid when needed.

Job Description

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! Working in Recreation means being apart of something special, gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills. We are looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with others with a passion to deliver high quality programs, events and services. One thing is for certain, you will love the experience and our participants will too!

The Successful Candidate will:
  • Set up and take down telMAX Indoor Skate Park equipment as needed, and report any issues or repairs to the Youth Centre Director.
  • Develop lesson plans and evaluate the progress and participation.
  • Write and handout report cards outlining your students’ accomplishments and recommendations each session. Update parents/guardians on their child’s progress.
  • Keep track of participant attendance during lessons and monitor entry and exit of program participants.
  • Supervises and maintains a safe environment for participants, ensures participants wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • Complete Incident/Accident reports, provide basic first aid when needed, and notify the Youth Centre Director when required.

Job Requirements
  • 1.Minimum 2 – 4 years skateboard or scooter riding experience.
  • 2.Sport and recreation instruction experience is an asset.
  • 3.Demonstrated ability to work well with children, youth and adults.
  • 4.Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, participants, parents/guardians of participants and staff.
  • 5.National Skateboard Certification Skate Program Level 1 or 2 an asset.
  • 6.Availability to work evenings, weekends and special events.
  • 7.Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
  • 8.Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
  • 9.Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required.
  • 10.Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification or Safe Management certification an asset

Please Note:Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.

Disclaimer:Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through aWSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
