The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for interested individuals to apply for the position of Skate Host at the Whistler Olympic Plaza Ice Rink (WOPIR). This position reports to the Recreation Services Supervisor and offers up to 20 hours bi-weekly, beginning on November 19, 2026, and continuing through mid-March 2027. The schedule varies and may consist of shifts from 11AM – 5:15 PM and nightly from 5:45 PM to 8:45 PM. Additional hours will be available during holiday periods.

The Skate Host’s primary role is to deliver excellent customer service experience in a pleasant, positive, and professional manner while controlling the use of the ice area; enforcing rules and regulations to ensure public safety; and providing skate rentals and helmets to guests. Skate Hosts are also responsible for the general upkeep and organization of the skate shop and lobby areas.

Qualified candidates will possess at minimum a valid first aid certification and a strong ability to ice skate. Preference will be given to applicants with previous guest service experience, and some knowledge of the resort community. Previous experience working in a recreation or arena setting is considered an asset.

The starting wage for this position is $23.23 an hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.
