This position is within the Medavie Shared Services IT team, collaborating with IT staff across Medavie Inc., Medavie Blue Cross, Medavie Health Services, and our partner Blue Cross organizations.

You will also support the shift towards DevOps practices, including automating routine maintenance tasks of our physical and virtual environments, troubleshooting server infrastructure issues, and supporting operational and project-specific solutions. The role involves ensuring continuous support of technologies, including on-call rotations, patching, after-hours implementations, and supporting application development teams. Focus areas include physical hardware and virtualization, as well as containerization and automation. The ideal candidate will have experience with server installation and configuration (rack and stack), developing or implementing DevOps pipelines, virtualization solutions like VMware and Hyper-V, and managing physical servers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document deployment management policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assess, analyze, plan, and design release deployment packages, including risk and compliance assessments.
  • Contribute to availability management processes and perform related tasks.
  • Ensure services and components meet performance targets and service levels.
  • Collaborate with Unix, Windows, Platform Engineering, Network, Database, and other infrastructure teams to implement solutions.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and self-healing strategies to prevent disruptions.
  • Leverage virtualization and infrastructure to deliver repeatable, highly available solutions.
  • Respond to service requests, provide technical support, and provision server infrastructure for projects.

Experience & Qualifications

Education: University degree or college diploma.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years in data center operations or system administration.
  • At least 2+ years working with physical hardware in a data center (servers, networks, cabling, storage).
  • Over 5 years of experience with virtualization solutions, including VMware vSphere.
  • At least 2+ years of server administration experience (Windows and Linux).
  • Over 3+ years managing data center operations and disaster recovery solutions/technologies.

Security Clearance: Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B) required, including fingerprinting, criminal record check, credit check, and proof of residency in Canada for at least 5 years. Must hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship status.

What’s in it for you?

  • Permanent full-time position with growth opportunities.
  • Flexible work arrangements and work-life balance.

  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental plans, fully employer-paid from day one.
  • 100% employer-matched Defined Contribution Pension Plan.
