Job summary

Baseten is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to define day‑2 operations standards for our ML infrastructure platform. You will build robust systems, automate mitigations, and develop observability tooling to keep services reliable at scale while enabling the broader team to operate confidently.

You’ll collaborate with engineering, forward‑deployed and product teams, turning recurring failures into automated safeguards, writing runbooks, and raising the operational floor across the company.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes across multi-cloud environments.
• Strong background in building and maintaining scalable infrastructure.
• Solid observability foundation: metrics, logging, dashboards, and alerting.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm) and GitOps workflows (FluxCD, ArgoCD).
• Experience writing and improving runbooks, leading incident response, and post-mortem analysis.
• Comfort working at the intersection of engineering and operations—code plus process.
• Familiarity with incident management platforms (Incident.io or similar).
• No prior ML experience required, but curiosity about ML deployment at scale is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability of Baseten’s multi‑cloud Kubernetes infrastructure, including incident response and remediation tracking.
• Build and maintain observability infrastructure — metrics, logging, dashboards, and alerting — as code.
• Author and improve runbooks for recurring failure patterns to enable safe, low-context execution.
• Identify high‑frequency failure patterns and convert them into automated mitigations and self‑healing actions.
• Diagnose runtime issues related to latency, memory behavior, GPU utilization, concurrency, and model lifecycle management.
• Define and instrument SLOs and SLIs across customer workloads and internal services.
• Collaborate across teams to reduce complexity and improve operational leverage.
