Job summary

CREATE. Construction Management Group is seeking a skilled Carpenter for Calgary, Alberta.

You will read blueprints, measure and cut materials, rough and finish carpentry, install doors and shelves, and ensure high-quality finishes on commercial spaces. You should have a recognized apprenticeship or 4+ years as a journey-level carpenter, proficient with carpentry tools, safe work practices, and good English/math skills.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or four years’ journey-level carpenter experience.
  • Hands-on experience with carpentry materials.
  • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and installation methods.
  • Proficient with electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times.
  • Good knowledge of English and basic math.
  • High school diploma; carpentry apprenticeship completion required.
  • Certification and experience using forklift & telehandler.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to understand requirements.
  • Take measurements and calculate material quantities needed.
  • Cut, shape and finish lumber and other materials as per plans.
  • Rough framing as required.
  • Finish carpentry: window frames, doors, hardware, stairs.
  • Finish work (flooring, roofing, drywall, paint) to high standards.
  • Assemble and install doors, cabinets, shelves; install where designated.
  • Inspect areas and perform repairs or maintenance.
  • Build scaffolding and other structures; assist with site cleanup.
  • Handle safety paperwork and inspections; load/unload materials as needed.

As CREATE. continues to evolve and grow, we are looking for a Carpenter to join our team! Are you a “Jack or Jill-of-all-trades” that loves to tackle rewarding projects? The Carpenter will be responsible for creating first and final impressions with our clients and have the opportunity to “make it right”!

Day-to-day responsibilities may include (but not limited to):
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. metals, fiberglass) according to measurements and use for install as per plans and directed
  • Rough Framing as required (ie formwork)
  • Finish carpentry as required (ie. build window frames, door and hardware install, staircases, etc)
  • Misc finishing as required (ie. flooring, roofing, drywalls, paint, etc) ensuring a high level of quality and to industry standards
  • Assemble and install of doors, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated
  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures
  • Misc scopes as assigned (ie. digging, cleanup after work completes, etc)
  • Safety paperwork and inspections as assignedLoading and unloading materials by hand or using a forklift or telehandler

What we’re looking for from the candidate:
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or a minimum of four years’ experience as a journey-level carpenter (or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience working with carpentry materials
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Good physical condition and endurance
  • High school diploma; Successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program is required (pr equivalent)
  • Certification and experience using a forklift & telehandler
