Description

The Department of Advanced Technical Skills Simulation Laboratory in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Position Title. This full-time, fixed-term position is for approximately 24 months (based on grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Advanced Technical Skills and Simulation Lab (ATSSL) Simulation Technician and Data Specialist reports to the ATSSL Manager. While working independently most of the time, the role involves collaboration with ATSSL Coordinators and Simulation Consultants regarding processes and workflows.

The ATSSL offers various simulation modalities, including human and animal cadaveric tissue and theater-based simulations. It supports medical education for a diverse learner group, from students to healthcare professionals, with the capacity for sessions of different sizes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report issues and suggest process improvements to the Coordinator CSL or ATSSL Manager
  • Coordinate activities ensuring materials, instruments, and equipment are available for sessions
  • Interact professionally with co-workers, faculty, and facility users
  • Continuously upgrade technical skills and knowledge
  • Maintain safety and technical processes according to policies
  • Manage time effectively to prepare for teaching sessions
  • Ensure safe operation of laboratory equipment and train staff/students in equipment use
  • Manage preparation and maintenance of trainers and simulation equipment
  • Develop processes, procedures, and manuals with technical writing skills
  • Manage equipment, trainers, and inventory
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism during assessments
  • Assist in data analysis and visualization using Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint
  • Track and manage booking requests and scheduling reports
  • Ensure compliance with EH&S standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve data workflows and reporting
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Basic Science, Anatomy, Health Sciences, or a related field, or a Technical Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, IT, or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant technical experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and in teams with minimal supervision
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Proficiency in Office 365, including Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with structured datasets
  • Experience with SharePoint and creating dashboards in Power BI is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good physical health to move equipment and lift up to 70 lbs
  • Flexible schedule, including availability for weekend shifts
  • Positive attitude and teamwork skills
