A leading transportation company is seeking a Signal Maintainer Apprentice to perform maintenance and repair for S&C systems. This role involves outdoor physical labor, teamwork, and travel within District 3. Position Overview:
This role involves trenching, cable distribution, housing installation, assembly and wiring of signal equipment, and pole line work. You will collaborate with Track Renewal teams to protect Signal & Communications (S&C) equipment, and may be required to repair or replace damaged equipment. The work involves moderate to heavy physical labor on track, including shoveling, installing ground systems, electrical connections, climbing poles, pole line repair, and walking on uneven ground.
Safety is a critical priority, as the environment can be high risk due to working around heavy, moving equipment. Employees must remain focused, work well in teams, and be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions. There may be travel requirements, including being away from home.
During training, employees are classified as S&C Helper earning $26.51/hour. Upon successful completion of training, employees can bid for a Signal Maintainer Apprentice position. After completing the program, the role involves testing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing S&C systems, planning work, managing materials, installing equipment, making corrections, and handling reports and correspondence. The position is on call to address failures outside regular hours.
