PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Signals & Communications Helpers work as part of high production team performing moderate to heavy labour related to railway signal systems in construction and maintenance. During training and development candidates will be classified as an S&C Helper after completion of training, the employee may bid to a Signal Maintainer Apprentice position. Please note that the territory for this position is considered District 3 and covers areas between Swift Current, SK and Thunder Bay, ON.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Trenching, cable distribution, housing installation, assembly of signal equipment, wiring of signal equipment, pole line work
  • Work with Track Renewal groups protecting the Signal & Communications (S&C) equipment
  • Repair or replace damaged equipment
  • Moderate to heavy physical labour on an assigned area of track. This work involves
  • Shoveling, Signal equipment installation, Install ground systems, Electrical connection of rail reporting the color of the signal, Climbing poles and Pole line repair Walking on uneven ground
  • 90 -100% travel requirements with lodging and meal allowance provided
  • Work can be seasonal, and employees may be laid off at the end of the work season. Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next work season

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience; Electronics/Electrical training and/or experience is considered an asset
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license: Commercial Driver's License would be considered an asset
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
  • Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
  • An emphasis on safety is important for all employees. While working in a high-risk environment around heavy moving equipment
  • Must have ability to relocate within District 3 (Swift Current, SK and Thunder Bay, ON.)

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
