Job SummaryThe Shunt Truck Driver / Route Planner is responsible for the safe movement of trailers, materials, and equipment within the facility yard while coordinating transportation routes to ensure efficient and timely deliveries. This role combines yard operations with transportation planning and serves as a key link between shipping, receiving, logistics, drivers, and operations teams. The successful candidate will support on-time customer delivery performance, optimize transportation resources, and maintain a safe and organized yard environment.Job DescriptionKey Accountabilities1. Yard and Shunt OperationsSafely operate a shunt truck to move trailers, containers, and equipment throughout the facility yard.Position trailers at loading and unloading docks according to shipping and receiving schedules.Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard equipment.Monitor yard inventory and trailer locations to ensure efficient utilization.Maintain an organized, safe, and accessible yard environment.Follow all company safety policies, transportation regulations, and site procedures.Report equipment defects, safety concerns, and operational issues promptly.2. Route Planning and Dispatch CoordinationDevelop and coordinate daily delivery routes to maximize efficiency and customer service.Schedule deliveries and pickups based on customer requirements, load availability, and driver schedules.Optimize routes to minimize mileage, fuel consumption, and transportation costs.Coordinate transportation activities with drivers, warehouse teams, operations, and customers.Monitor route performance and recommend improvements to service levels and productivity.Adjust schedules and routes in response to changing customer requirements or operational challenges.3. Logistics and Transportation SupportEnsure delivery schedules align with production, inventory, and customer requirements.Maintain accurate transportation records, delivery manifests, and shipping documentation.Track delivery status and communicate delays, risks, or issues to stakeholders.Support carrier management and coordination when third-party transportation providers are utilized.Assist in resolving transportation, delivery, and customer service issues.4. Safety and ComplianceMaintain compliance with all transportation, yard, and workplace safety standards.Conduct regular equipment inspections and ensure required documentation is completed accurately.Support transportation and logistics audits when required.Promote safe work practices among drivers, contractors, and yard personnel.Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.5.
