Job Description
This role is ideal for an eager, safety-conscious team player who is willing to learn and grow in a dynamic production and manufacturing shop environment. You will support day-to-day operations by handling materials, operating equipment, and assisting tradespeople such as millwrights and machinists. The position involves a variety of hands-on tasks including cleaning, grit blasting, painting preparation, assembly and disassembly of parts, and general shop upkeep. Experience with sit-down counterbalance forklifts and overhead cranes is preferred, and you will receive training and verification of skills on these pieces of equipment. Over time, you will become an integral part of a fast-paced service-based shop where jobs change quickly and adaptability is essential.
Perform cleaning and grit blasting of machine components as required to support production and repair activities.
Transport parts and components between departments efficiently and safely to ensure smooth workflow throughout the shop.
Prepare parts for shipment, including painting, touch-ups, and final visual checks in accordance with shop standards.
Operate overhead cranes and sit-down counterbalance forklifts competently to move, lift, and position materials and equipment.
Use hand and power tools such as drills, impact guns, buffers, and grinders to grind, buff, assemble, and disassemble parts as needed.
Assist millwrights and machinists with general tasks related to manual machining, mill, lathe, and blueprint-related work when required.
Maintain work supplies and materials by reading work orders, locating and verifying items in inventory, loading items onto trucks or carts, and moving and unloading items at the correct locations.
Support general labor duties including shop cleaning, scrap removal, and organizing work areas to keep the facility efficient and orderly.
Maintain a clean and safe work site by sweeping and mopping, removing debris, erecting barriers, and consistently following safety rules and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times and follow all safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
Plan and complete assigned tasks on time, adapting quickly when priorities or job requirements change in the service-based, dynamic shop environment.
Communicate effectively with team members, ask questions when needed, and use the open-door policy to address concerns or clarify instructions.
Demonstrate flexibility by working overtime as required to meet operational needs and customer timelines.
The long-term schedule is an afternoon shift from Monday to Thursday, 2:15 p.m. to 12:45 a.m., following an initial training period of approximately six weeks on day shift from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime applies after 10 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week, with additional overtime opportunities on weekends. On-site amenities include coffee, tea, and parking, contributing to a comfortable and professional work setting.
Experience working in a production or manufacturing shop environment.
Hands-on experience using a sit-down counterbalance forklift, with the ability to operate safely and efficiently.
Hands-on experience operating an overhead crane in an industrial setting.
Competence with hand and power tools, especially drills, impact guns, buffers, and grinders.
Strong safety orientation and commitment to following established safety rules, procedures, and use of personal protective equipment.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete tasks on time in a fast-paced, service-based environment.
Willingness to perform general labor duties, including shop cleaning and material handling, as part of daily responsibilities.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with millwrights, machinists, and other shop personnel.
Comfort working in a dynamic environment with frequent changes in jobs and priorities, and the ability to adapt quickly.
Mechanical aptitude and interest in trades such as machining, mill, and lathe work.
Counterbalance forklift certification is an asset.
Overhead crane ticket is an asset.
Familiarity with the basics of sandblasting or industrial painting; training will be provided if there is no prior experience.
Ability to work overtime as required, including weekends when needed.
Orientation and adherence to the company-wide Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) Management System, including safe behavior programs.
Strong soft skills, including being comfortable with change, intellectually curious, and passionate about learning and developing within the trade.
Interest in manual machining, manual lathe work, and reading blueprints is considered an advantage.

The role is based in a very clean, service-oriented shop environment that is family oriented, easygoing, and supportive, with an open-door policy for questions and concerns. The atmosphere can be noisy at times due to running equipment and the use of hand and power tools, and appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and required. The shop is highly dynamic, with jobs coming and going quickly, so employees must stay organized and be ready to adjust on short notice. All PPE and coveralls are supplied, and there is an annual reimbursement for safety boots.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edmonton, AB.
The pay range for this position is $26.50 - $26.50/hr.
