Job summary

United Gear & Machine Works Ltd., a division of Boundary Mining Group, seeks a detail-oriented shop assistant to support gearbox refurbishment operations. You will handle shipping/receiving, packing, cleaning, and general shop coordination to keep parts moving efficiently and safely in a busy manufacturing environment.

Required: Class 5 driver’s license; basic hand and power tool experience. Forklift and overhead crane experience are assets.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Experience operating a forklift and overhead crane preferred.
• Experience with basic hand and power tools required.
• Mechanical aptitude preferred.

Responsibilities

• Shipping and receiving, including forklift and crane operations.

Job Description:

For over 60 years, United Gear has industrial specialized in gearbox refurbishment and enhancement. We manufacture internal and external gears, including spur, helical, bevel and worm. United Gear has set itself apart by providing the highest quality gearbox refurbishment services supporting Western Canada’s mining, pulp and paper services, port services, and wind power industries.

Our business expansion has increased the volume in our rebuild department, and we are looking for a detailed and hardworking individual to assist with shop support, focusing on component cleaning after gearbox teardown, handling, and shipping.

Key Responsibilities:

• Shipping and receiving, including operating a forklift and overhead cranes.
• Local pick ups and deliveries.
• Cleaning and maintaining parts to ensure their optimal cleanliness.
• Keeping the shop area clean and organized.
• Shop floor coordination, to keep materials and equipment where they are needed.
• Clean machinery and vehicles.
• Cut, prepare, and deburr material (using bandsaw and zipcut).
• Painting of components.
• Assist shop staff and skilled tradespeople as required.
• Packaging and crating equipment and components safely.

Qualifications:

• Class 5 driver’s license is required.
• Experience operating a forklift and overhead crane is considered an asset.
• Experience with basic hand and power tools is required.
• Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset. Candidates with mechanical hobbies or work experience will be given preference.
