Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada operates a men’s residential shelter and seeks a Custodian to maintain a healthy, comfortable environment through daily cleaning and upkeep. The role covers floors, washrooms, offices and common areas, with laundry duties as needed and adherence to safety protocols.

You will work independently or with a team, lift items up to 50 lbs, and participate in required training while supporting program needs through meticulous sanitation and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
• Police information check with vulnerable sector search is required.
• Child intervention check may be required for work near children.
• At least three months of related cleaning/maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, dusts, mops, washes, vacuums, polishes and waxes floors.
• Cleans washrooms, windows, woodwork, furniture and surfaces.
• Performs laundry services as required by program needs.
• Lifts and moves furniture as requested and works with team to meet schedules.
• Follows procedures for inventory tracking and reports repairs.
• Attends mandatory training and adheres to sanitation protocols.
• Handles general cleaning tasks and ensures safety and quality standards.
