Job summary

Keilhauer in Toronto is seeking a full-time Sewer to support the Production Department by sewing fabric and leather components into high-quality chair covers. This role requires precision, focus, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will align parts, select threads, trim edges, steam chairs, and collaborate with colleagues to meet daily schedules while upholding safety and quality standards. Training and teamwork are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • One year or more of machine sewing experience.
  • Ability to produce detailed, high quality end products.
  • Ability to understand, speak, read and write basic English.

  • Sews products within established production standard times.
  • Produces high-quality covers for standard and special orders.
  • Aligns parts, fasteners, and trimmings according to seams or markings.
  • Selects threads and zippers based on specifications or part colour.
  • Trims excess threads and cover edges to achieve required finished quality.
  • Identifies and resolves material issues to maintain product quality.
  • Manages time and prioritizes tasks to meet daily production schedules.
  • Steams completed chairs as required.
  • Helps new and temporary employees understand assigned tasks.
  • Contributes as a reliable team member within and across production cells.

Sewer - Full-Time Position
Summary

The Sewer at Keilhauer plays a pivotal role within the Production Department, supporting the manufacturing process through the sewing of fabric and leather components to meet production demands. Key responsibilities include producing high-quality covers, maintaining accuracy and consistency in all sewing activities, and contributing to departmental goals through efficient and timely completion of assigned tasks. This role also requires adherence to safety standards and established production procedures.

The Sewer collaborates with team members within the production cell and across departments to ensure daily schedules are met and product quality standards are maintained. The role is integral in upholding Keilhauer's reputation for craftsmanship, reliability, and attention to detail.

This position demands a highly focused and dependable individual who can work with precision, follow detailed instructions, and adapt to a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Sewer demonstrates strong attention to detail, organization, and teamwork, supporting Keilhauer's commitment to quality and excellence in every product.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Sews products within the established production standard times.
  • Produces high-quality covers as part of the production process for standard and special orders.
  • Aligns parts, fasteners, and trimmings according to seams, edges or markings.

Qualifications
  • previous experience with machine sewing of one year or more.
  • Must have ability to produce detailed, high quality end products.
  • Ability to understand, speak, read and write basic English.
Essential Physical And Intellectual Requirements
  • Must be able to repetitively grip tightly and push/pull thick fabrics and leathers with fire retardant backing through a sewing machine.
  • Must have full use of both hands and good visual acuity to thread the needle, trim materials, and hold seams open while sewing.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (excluding break periods) while operating a sewing machine.
  • Must be able to use a foot treadle, requiring prolonged use of ankle and knee movement.
  • Must be able to use tools such as scissors and mallets.
  • Works primarily in a plant environment (approximately 100% of the time).
  • May be exposed to heat, dust, and noise levels within the manufacturing environment.
