Position Title: Sessional Instructors/Lecturers
School: Basic Science & Agriculture/Environmental Science
Faculty: Agriculture
Contract Type: Call for Sessional Instructors
Deadline to Apply: June 30, 2025
Start Date: Fall Semester 2025

We are currently seeking qualified instructors to teach in the Niitsitapi Basic Science and Agriculture/Environmental Science Programs at the Standoff main campus to teach the following courses:

  1. Agricultural Business Management
  2. Agribusiness Accounting
  3. Indigenous Agriculture
  4. Natural science courses (Biology, chemistry, mathematics/statistics, and computer science)
  5. Agronomy (crop and soil science)
  6. Language art (communication)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Niitsitapi Agriculture Diploma Program is a two-year program comprising 20 courses (60 credits) in Agricultural Production (Agronomy & Animal Science) and Agricultural Business Management. The Red Crow Community Agriculture diploma program is recognized by the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and the Canadian Association of Diploma in Agriculture Programs (CADAP). Built on the Blackfoot ways of knowing, Kaahsinooniksi (Elders) play a significant role in the program and will collaborate with the instructors throughout it.

The instructors will be responsible for developing and submitting course outlines and delivering learning objectives that align with the Blackfoot culture. Instruction will enhance students' skills, knowledge, and understanding through the efficient and timely preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, and workshops. The instructors will evaluate and grade student work promptly using measurable criteria. The instructors will be prepared to present course material on the assigned days of instruction for 39 hours per semester. Days and times are to be determined.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  1. The instructors will honour the mission, philosophy, and principles of Red Crow Community College.
  2. Possess an understanding of or experience participating in Blackfoot culture and language. Relevant knowledge in selected discipline with experience teaching at the university or college level. Industrial experience is also preferred.
  3. Proficient computer skills with an ability to use a learning management system and deliver classes in person or online.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students individually and in groups.
  5. Effective interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of professionalism, act with direction, and maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in workplace health and safety, equity, diversity, and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
  7. The ideal candidate has more than two years’ experience working within a post-secondary environment, can use an online learning management system (Moodle), employs creative teaching strategies, and has a positive and caring attitude.
  8. The candidate must have a master’s degree in relevant subject matter or a related discipline. The following are preferred: Agricultural Business Management, natural sciences for biology (botany, zoology), chemistry, mathematics/statistics, and computer science. A master’s degree or Ph.D. in agronomy (crop and soil science) and a master’s degree in language arts and Indigenous studies are also required.
  9. Familiarity or willingness to learn Blackfoot culture, history, and language is preferred.
