Job summary

Alberta Health Services seeks a Service Worker I to support the Emergency department at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. The role involves transporting patients, equipment, and specimens; replenishing supplies; and maintaining clean patient care areas as part of a busy health care team.

Qualified candidates have Grade 12, BLS Level C, a healthcare provider registration, and at least one year of porter/attendant experience.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - AED Level C required.
• Healthcare Provider Registration must be attached.
• One year experience as a porter/attendant required.
• English language comprehension required.
• Ability to meet physical demands (pushing stretchers, carts, wheelchairs; bending, reaching).
• Completion of Medical Terminology required.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients and equipment within a hospital site.
• Distribute and replenish hospital supplies.
• Clean equipment and patient care areas as directed.
• Transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts.
• Report safety concerns to Unit Managers.

The attendant is an integral member of the health care team, supporting Adults and Stollery in a family centered care within a busy tertiary Emergency.

Description:

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) - Healthcare Provider Registration (must attach certificate). One year experience as a porter/attendant required. English language comprehension, both oral and written is required. Ability to meet the physical demands associated with the job i.e. pushing stretchers, carts, wheelchairs, and bending, reaching, is required. Completion of Medical Terminology required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work in a team environment is essential. Self-motivated individual able to prioritize and organize workload, in a busy patient care environment.
