Job summary

University of Victoria in Victoria is seeking janitorial staff to perform routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings and facilities. The role involves constant mobility, bending, lifting and reaching to clean furniture, floors, walls and other surfaces.

You will move furniture and equipment as needed and dispose waste properly. Responsibilities include cleaning washrooms, operating cleaning tools, and reporting repairs while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety on

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning tools, materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in building cleaning.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting and reaching.
• Experience gained through on-the-job or formal training.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings and facilities with emphasis on cleanliness and safety.
• Clean surfaces of furniture, furnishings, floors, walls and other surfaces; move furniture and equipment when required.
• Clear and clean waste containers and dispose of materials properly; service washrooms and restrooms.
• Operate hand and power tools and perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Report repairs needed for furniture, fixtures and other facilities and assist in maintaining security of facilities.

Job description

Performs janitorial work necessary for the routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings and facilities which involves constant mobility, bending, lifting and reaching. Cleans and maintains all surfaces of furniture, furnishings, floors, walls and other surfaces. Moves furniture and equipment when required. Clears and cleans waste containers and properly disposes material. Cleans glass surfaces not requiring the use of scaffolds or safety devices. Cleans, disinfects and provides supplies for washrooms. Operates all manner of hand and power tools and performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment. Requests supplies and materials as required and stores for ready use. Reports furniture, fixtures and other facilities in need of repair. Maintains high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety and assists in maintaining security of facilities, in assigned areas. Other related duties as required, including occasional operation of light truck in performance of above duties. Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning tools, materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in building cleaning, gained either through on-the-job experience or completion of formal training.
