Job summary

Trane Technologies in Canada is seeking a Service Estimator II to prepare quotes for HVAC service projects and service agreements. You will work with Account Managers and building owners to deliver costed proposals that reflect accurate materials, labor, and subcontractor costs, while identifying value opportunities.

You will coordinate scopes, perform take-offs, and maintain accuracy through detail-oriented bidding processes, with flexibility to work onsite and across locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology or related field preferred; 3–5 years of related experience or technical certificate with 5 years experience.
• HVAC technical knowledge and construction experience including mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems would be a plus.
• Experience with financial and business acumen; ability to run projects on time and on budget.

Responsibilities

• Create quotes for service agreements and all quoted works to support Account Managers.
• Prepare cost estimates covering materials, subcontractors, equipment, labor, and related activities.
• Develop detailed scope from design-build inputs; include sketches, definitions, exceptions, proposals and vendor quotes.
• Perform take-offs and pricing of purchased equipment ensuring accuracy of quantities and specifications.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage risk by staying current with industry standards.
• Develop sub-contractor scope and negotiate pricing to optimize job costs.
• Lead pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.

What’s in it for you:

Trane in Barnaby is hiring for a Service Estimator II to join our team. In this role, you will be will be working with Trane Account Managers and building owners providing estimates and quotes for HVAC service projects and agreements. Trane always focuses on a total solution to provide our customers with the most energy efficient buildings!

What you will do:

• Create quotes for service agreements and all quoted works in support of our Service Account Managers and Controls Service Account Managers.
• Responsible for the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities created by personnel to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.
• Develops detailed scope based on Account Managers design-build scope. Creates detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points list.
• Responsible for the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
• Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects. Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.
• Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors. Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials and services.
• Responsible for holding job pre-bid meeting with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, etc.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s or Associates degree in engineering, engineering technology or related study preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience; or technical certificate with five (5) years related experience; or HVAC Technician experience with combination of education and related field experience.
• Candidates without a 4-year degree are encouraged to apply; we prioritize practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with our leadership principles.
• Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc. preferred.
• Experience withfinancial and business acumen and a history of running projects on time and on budget.
• Proven experience prioritizing tasks in order to meet tight deadlines within a high-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations included, but not limited to: : DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
