Job summary

The Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington (CMHA WW) is recruiting a SERVICE COORDINATOR (Children’s Crisis) for a full-time contract based in Guelph. The role focuses on crisis assessment and planning for children and youth aged 6–18, with responsibilities that include safety planning, stabilization, and referrals.

Reporting to the Manager of Children’s Services, the role requires evening hours and mobility within Guelph/Wellington County.

Qualifications

• Degree/diploma in psychology, social work, or relevant health or social science field.
• Three or more years of experience working with high-risk children and youth with complex needs.
• Well-developed intake, referral, crisis assessment, intervention and brief support skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment and also independently.
• Knowledge of mental health and addiction supports and resources in the system.
• Good organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a busy inter-disciplinary setting and with community resources.
• Knowledge of service systems within the catchment area.
• Computers, databases and word processing skills.
• Belief in the values and philosophy of CMHA WW.
• Clinical and practical judgement.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity:

We are recruiting for a SERVICE COORDINATOR (Children’s Crisis)

• This is a contract full-time position to fill an existing vacancy until March 31, 2027 (35 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) based at 737 Woolwich St. Guelph.

Reporting to the Manager, Children’s Services, this position will provide crisis assessment and support for the mental health and addictions needs of high‑risk children and youth from 6 to 18 years of age. This will include crisis assessment, safety planning, stabilization and skill development, and referral to other supports and services both within CMHA and the community. The Service Coordinator (Children's Crisis) is part of Children's Services and supports both Guelph and Wellington County.

The Service Coordinator (Children's Crisis) role will provide crisis assessments during the hours of 1pm to 9pm which includes rural hospital crisis assessments and Guelph General Hospital reassessments as requested. The successful candidate will go mobile as necessary based on the needs of the child/youth and risk issues. The successful candidate will carry a caseload and provide crisis assessments to the Guelph/Wellington hospitals.

Qualifications:

• Degree/diploma in psychology, social work, or relevant health or social science field
• Three or more years of experience working with high-risk children and youth with complex needs
• Well‑developed intake, referral, crisis assessment, intervention and brief support skills
• Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment and also independently
• Knowledge of a broad range of mental health, addiction and concurrent issues
• Knowledge of our system’s mental health and addiction supports and resources
• Good organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a busy inter‑disciplinary setting and with formal and informal community resources
• Well‑developed knowledge base of the various service systems within the catchment area
• Demonstrated working knowledge of personal computers, database and word processing applications
• Demonstrated belief in the values and philosophy of CMHA WW
• Demonstrated sound clinical and practical judgement
• A valid driver’s license, vehicle and insurance, as travel is required

CLASSIFICATION AND RATE OF PAY: Level 5 (OPSEU) - $33.07 to $40.30 per hour
