Job Description

To act as a personal representative of the hotel by providing guests with service that reflects the high standards of the Fairmont Royal York. The overall dining experience is essential; therefore, you, the server, must have a thorough understanding of the operation, menus (including wine, à la carte, and promotional menus), and be able to suggestively upsell to benefit the hotel, shareholders, and yourself.

  • Report to duty punctually to maintain the integrity of co-workers and guests.
  • Consistently offer personal, friendly, and efficient service.
  • Clear all dishes, deliver meals, and present cheques professionally and discreetly.
  • Have full knowledge of the menu, beverage lists, and hotel promotions.
  • Take corrective action when dealing with dissatisfied guests to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Be knowledgeable about menu items, garnishes, contents, and preparation methods; be ready to answer guest questions clearly and concisely.
  • Maintain teamwork and good work ethics by assisting co-workers without compromising the guest dining experience.
  • Understand shift end reports, cash/non-cash transactions, and deposit procedures.
  • Read and understand all hotel policies, procedures, and departmental standards.
  • Follow restaurant procedures for order taking, reservations, table setting, and guest service standards.
  • Be aware of safety and sanitation when handling food and beverages.
  • Understand work sections and side duties assigned.
  • Attend pre-shift, weekly, and monthly meetings for effective communication.
  • Follow the hotel’s recycling program and procedures.
  • Immediately report any accidents involving guests, co-workers, or yourself.
  • Share suggestions or concerns to improve guest experience and operations.
  • Operate all equipment used in the outlet.
  • Be familiar with other hotel outlets, services, and offices, including location, hours, and offerings.
Qualifications
  • Availability to work breakfast and lunch shifts.
  • Previous experience in a restaurant or food and beverage setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Smart Serve certification.
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol.
  • OTEC certification is an asset.
Physical Aspects of the Position
  • Constant standing and walking during shifts.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
  • Regular kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Frequent use of ladders, stairs, and ramps.
