Job description

If you’re experienced, dependable and ready to take ownership of your work, this could be the next step in your career. At Select Stone, we’re looking for someone who wants to become a key part of our Yard team, who customers and coworkers can count on to know the yard, know the material and keep things moving.

As a Senior Yard Team Member, you’ll provide excellent customer service while selecting, preparing and loading material for customers and deliveries. You’ll operate skid steers and loaders, help keep the yard organized and safe, and take ownership of the day-to-day work that keeps the Yard running smoothly.

Practically speaking, here's what you'll do day to day…
Customer Service
  • Assist customers and safely and efficiently load the materials they require.
  • Accurately tally and measure customer orders and communicate completed orders to the Front Office for processing.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and develop an understanding of their products and material needs.
  • Work closely with the Front Office to understand customer requirements and order priorities, proactively communicating delays, shortages, or other concerns that may affect the customer.
  • Help resolve yard-related customer concerns and identify opportunities where additional products or services may benefit the customer.
Shipping & Receiving
  • Take ownership of coordinating and prioritizing the picking, staging, and loading of customer orders to ensure they are accurate and ready on time.
  • Receive incoming material, ensuring it is accurately documented, inspected, and stored safely.
  • Promptly communicate shortages, damage, discrepancies, or receiving concerns to the appropriate team member.
  • Ensure receiving paperwork is completed accurately and returned to the Front Office.
Yard Operations
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient yard and ensure material is stored neatly in designated locations.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to maintain and improve the established yard layout and organization plan.
  • Help coordinate day-to-day yard priorities and keep work moving efficiently during busy periods.
  • Provide support and direction to other Yard Team Members as needed and model strong standards for safety, customer service, organization, and teamwork.
Inventory Control
  • Support inventory accuracy by ensuring materials are properly stored, identified, labelled, and handled.
  • Lead or assist with physical inventory counts as required.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and address damaged, unidentified, misplaced, or incorrectly labelled material.
  • Ensure material movements affecting inventory are communicated to the Front Office.
  • Proactively flag low stock, unusual usage, or other inventory concerns to the Operations Manager.
Safety, Equipment & Other Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify and address unsafe conditions, practices, or equipment concerns and **escalate** significant issues when required.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair needs with the Millwright.
  • Support winter salt operations as required.
  • Take initiative in identifying opportunities to improve yard safety, organization, efficiency, and customer service.
The Right Fit

We’re looking for an experienced, hands‑on person who takes initiative, works well with others and provides friendly, confident customer service.

You’ll be a great fit if you have:

  • At least 5 years of experience operating a skid steer, loader or similar equipment and can operate it safely and proficiently from day one.
  • Strong spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly with customers and coworkers.
  • A friendly, customer‑focused approach.
  • Initiative and the ability to recognize what needs to be done without constant direction.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and problem‑solving skills.
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
  • Comfort working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Availability to work 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday during the busy season.
Please note:

This is not an entry‑level equipment operator position. Applicants must already be experienced and proficient operating a skid steer or similar equipment.

What we can offer you:

This is a full‑time hourly position. Typically, you’ll work Monday to Friday from 7:00 am-5:00 pm during the busy season, with reduced hours in the winter months. As a member of our team, you’ll enjoy:
