Senior Writer, CBC News Digital
Location: Toronto, telework eligible
Permanent part-time weekends
CBC News is looking for an experienced digital journalist to join our team at Canada's leading digital news operation, and ensure the accurate and timely delivery of news to CBC’s digital, mobile, social and video news platforms. A key requirement of this job is quickly writing breaking news, including for our newly launched live pages.
Based in Toronto, this part-time, permanent position is shifted Saturday and Sunday, 5 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. You are the first writer of the day and have excellent news judgment, helping to set priorities for the morning team and working with the regions on big, breaking news.
You’re an excellent writer with a sharp eye for thoughtful, human-centered stories on a range of subjects that reflect and connect with contemporary Canada. You know what works for digital and social audiences and how best to engage them using text, images, video and audio. You elevate news stories with the best of what CBC has to offer: you are happy to trawl through TV hits and radio segments, read interview transcripts and talk to field reporters to identify and include those key moments in your stories.
You’re a critical thinker who is comfortable making independent editorial decisions in accordance with the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and the overall digital strategy. You are a self-starter who can work collaboratively, and under pressure.
You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Overtime work may be assigned based on operational requirements.
