A leading company in environmental consulting is seeking a Senior Wildlife Ecologist to lead wildlife-related projects across Western and Northern Canada. As we expand our Wildlife team in Western Canada, we’re seeking a Senior Wildlife Ecologist to lead, mentor, and shape our practice. This role combines technical expertise with team building, client development, and leadership opportunities, providing autonomy and support to succeed.
You will provide technical leadership in wildlife sciences, collaborating with teams within SLR, clients, regulators, Indigenous groups, and stakeholders. A strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and best practices in biophysical assessments, habitat management, and mitigation is essential. Experience in project management, proposal development, and mentoring is also required.
The role involves leading wildlife and terrestrial habitat assessments, focusing on species at risk, migratory birds, and sensitive habitats. You will work with experienced professionals to navigate regulatory requirements, including Environmental Assessments, the Impact Assessment Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, and provincial legislation. Responsibilities include designing field programs, developing technical reports such as Wildlife Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Effects Assessments, Habitat Suitability Models, and advising clients on regulatory compliance and best practices.
Additional duties include mentoring staff, business development, maintaining client relationships, and supporting growth of our wildlife services at a national level.
